Let talk strokes...What is a stroke?

There are 2 types of strokes. There is a Block and a Bleed.

A block is the most common of type of stroke seen.

Here's what happens.... A blood clot forms from somewhere in your body. As it is circulating thought you blood system it travels to you brain. In your brain you have very small vessels and the clot gets stuck in the vessel. When it gets stuck it prevents blood from getting past it.

Blood = Oxygen

Once that part of the brain becomes oxygen deficient you start the show the sign and symptoms of a stroke

Balance- Uncoordinated
Eyes- visual problems
Facial droop
Arm Drift- Cant keep both arms up when closing eyes
Slurred speech
Time- Last time seen normal, not when you happen to notice
the symptoms

The second type is a bleed

This is most common in elderly people. The most common cause is a head injury. a fall, vehicle accident are examples

What happens is the person hits there head. Sometimes it really is not that bad. They go to the hospital or they choose not to because they fell it was not that bad. At the hospital they "observe" or they do a CAT scan. Nothing develops during the "observation" and the CAT scan does not revile anything. -- The person goes home.

But undetected it a small, small bleed. Over time the bleed spread and they develop a large bleed in there brain.

This person doesn't usually show the signs and symptoms like the ones above.

This person is usually unconscious, unresponsive, unusual blood pressure, abnormal breathing.

Immediate transport in both cases in needed
