Tracing your pedagogical roots. How far back can you follow the tradition of your technique? My specific history goes back through Carmen Savoca and Peyton Hibbit! Peyton is still alive at 91! They studied at conservatory in Philadelphia where they met but their teacher was Althouse who was also Richard Tuckers Teacher. Bel Canto at its core their teaching focused on technique coupled tightly with meaning. Their firm adherence to meaning in everything excluded the acceptance of pretty noise as singing. Singing must communicate and the more specific and beautiful the meaning the better.
