Today is the feast of St. Louis, King of France.
At his coronation, St. Louis pledged to act as God’s anointed. He acted on this pledge and lived out his kingship with his faith as his guide. France had many years of peace during his reign.
St. Louis cared for the poor and the sick, even those with leprosy. He died of sickness while leading a crusade.
He is the patron saint of barbers, grooms, and the Secular Franciscan Order. St. Louis, pray for us!

Today is the feast of St. Bartholomew, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus.
Some Biblical scholars also identify St. Bartholomew as Nathaniel in the Gospel of John.
Nathanael [Bartholomew] said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree." Nathanael [Bartholomew] answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." John 1:48-49
He is the patron saint of butchers, bookbinders, leather workers, skin diseases, dermatologists, shoemakers, and neurological diseases.
St. Bartholomew, pray for us.

Happy feast day of St. Rose of Lima, a 17th century Third Order Dominican from Peru.
St. Rose wanted to join the convent and leave her family but they needed her. Her family had fallen into financial hardship, and St. Rose's contributions helped to sustain them. She worked as a florist and embroiderer, selling her goods in the market to help care for her family as well as the poor.
She is the patron saint of embroiderers, gardeners, florists, and Latin America.
Gardening and embroidery are not the first things that come to mind when thinking of "doing God's work," but that’s exactly how St. Rose served the Lord. All work, done for love of God and neighbor, is God's work.

Today is the feast of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, an 11th century French Cistercian abbot and Doctor of the Church.
St. Bernard is depicted in art with a white dog, because like St. Dominic's mother, St. Bernard's mother had a prophetic dream that she was pregnant with a dog. He is also shown with a little devil on a chain, a nod to his reputation as a powerful exorcist and defender against heresy.
He is the patron saint of beekeepers and candlemakers.
