Thanks to the State of Iowa's new Education Savings Accounts, Catholic education is a reality for all who desire it! Eligible students (kindergartners, transfers from public or homeschool, and income eligible students) who apply and qualify for an ESA by 6/30/24 will have zero tuition cost this fall. We’re kicking off our first home football game of the regular season with a special PK-2 Family Tailgate this Friday night!

Families from St. Joseph, Immaculate Conception, St. Athanasius, and St. John’s with kiddos in Preschool - 2nd Grade are invited to join us before the Dons take on Iowa Valley!

Today, students from the BCSS Class of 2028 celebrated a beautiful and significant milestone in their faith journey, the Sacrament of Confirmation. ✝️

Joined by Archbishop Zinkula, clergy, deacons, families, and parishioners from Immaculate Conception, Saint Joseph, Saint Athanasius, and Saint Francis Barclay, these young people received the gifts of the Holy Spirit and affirmed their commitment to living out their faith.

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide, strengthen, and inspire our newly confirmed students as they grow in faith, service, and love for Christ and His Church.

Congratulations to all of our Class of 2028 Confirmation candidates! May you always be open to where the Holy Spirit is calling you.

What a night! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our BCSS Back to School Open House last night! 🎉

What started as a new idea to bring several back-to-school traditions together turned into a wonderful evening of community, connection, and Bosco pride.

From meeting teachers and dropping off school supplies to grabbing dinner, checking out the Fun Run Hallway renovations, visiting with our bus drivers, connecting with PTO and Booster Club, welcoming new families, and taking care of those back-to-school to-dos, our campus was full of energy and excitement for the year ahead!

A special thank you to our teachers, staff, PTO, Booster Club, bus drivers, volunteers, and everyone who helped make the evening possible. And of course, thank you to our families for showing up and making it such a success!

Today we’re excited to introduce you to Father Douglas Loecke, who will serve as a Parochial Vicar and will be living right here in Gilbertville!

Father Loecke grew up on a farm near Ryan and was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Dubuque in 1989. Over his 37 years as a priest, he has served in parishes throughout the Archdiocese and also spent time working with the Metropolitan Tribunal after earning a license in canon law in Rome.

When asked what he is most looking forward to in this new assignment, Father Loecke had a simple answer: doing everything he can to help people get to heaven. His priestly ministry has been guided by the words of John the Baptist: “He must increase; I must decrease.”

We’re especially excited to have Father Loecke living in Gilbertville and becoming a familiar face in our Bosco community. He will join Fathers Beckman and Frieden in celebrating our Friday School Masses and will have a presence throughout our schools.

Please join us in giving Father Loecke a warm Bosco welcome! We are grateful for his 37 years of priestly ministry and look forward to all that God has in store for this next chapter. 💙

The countdown is almost over! Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19, from 4–7 PM for our BCSS Back to School Open House!

As we continue introducing the priests who will be part of our Bosco community, we’re excited to welcome Father Jeffrey Frieden, who will serve as a Parochial Vicar and Don Bosco High School Chaplain. Fr. Frieden will join Fathers Beckman and Loecke in celebrating our Friday School Masses.

Father Frieden grew up in Cedar Rapids and is a 2015 graduate of Xavier High School. He attended Loras College, studying philosophy as part of the seminary program and minoring in Spanish, before continuing his formation at Mundelein Seminary near Chicago. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Dubuque in May 2023.

Father Frieden has already discovered that working with young people is one of the most rewarding parts of his ministry. As chaplain at Wahlert Catholic High School and Mazzuchelli Catholic Middle School, he found himself blessed by the opportunity to walk alongside students, and we’re excited for him to continue that ministry here at Don Bosco!

He jokes that when he told God he would do anything for Him, convincing high schoolers that he was worth talking to wasn’t quite what he had in mind! But God had other plans, and Father Frieden found great joy in that ministry. We’re glad those plans are bringing him to Bosco!

We are excited to welcome Father Frieden to the Bosco family and look forward to all the ways he will be present in the lives of our students, families, and staff. Please help us give Father Frieden a warm Bosco welcome! 💙

We’re excited to announce something NEW for the 2026-2027 school year! For the first time, every Bosco Catholic student in grades K-12 AND all St. Athanasius students will receive a FREE Student Athletic Pass!
