National Love Your Produce Manager Day

In addition to placing orders, they also have to set up the display and how everything is going to look to customers coming into the store. Just take a look around at the beautiful palette of colors, sizes, flavors, and options presented to you every time you go to the store. Your produce manager is the one who sat down and figured out where everything was going to go, and made sure it all got there. That handwriting you see in grease-pen on the signs? Almost certainly the painstaking work of a produce manager preparing her store to be ready to bring you delicious and fresh new produce.

Year-round berries, citrus, veggies, and more all at once would have once been impossible. But Produce managers give you all of these options, carefully selected.

If you were a kid in America in the 1990s, or really any year since, you probably remember your first taste of Dippin’ Dots. Maybe it was at an amusement park, a cool treat after the thrill of riding your first roller coaster under the summer sun. Or maybe it was in between innings at a baseball game, after begging your parents for what felt like hours. Regardless, you’ll never forget the sensation of the impossibly cold, impossibly round bits of ice cream. There was the crunch of biting into them, and then the sweet release of letting the ice cream melt, ever so slowly, on your tongue.I

Invented in the late-1980s, the novelty ice cream spheres are a cultural touchstone for many who grew up in the 1990s.

Over the years, tres leches has evolved to include cuatro leches or even cinco leches (four- and five-milk cakes). There are chocolate, coconut, and fruit tres leches variations, and here, I’ve given it a seasonal spin with the addition of pumpkin purée and warming fall spices like cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and cloves.

This cake is essential fall baking.

Celebrate the Memorial Day weekend with an Arizona-centric picnic courtesy of AZ Women in Food, a group created earlier this year to support woman-led food businesses.

AZWIF’s first ventures were three-course takeout meals offered in March and April. Now, it’s selling a picnic package for four that includes 1-items, each from a different business.

The packages are $80 and can be ordered here. There are four locations around the Valley that orders can be picked up.
