Help support this year’s Fund-a-Need project to create an Outdoor Learning Space! We will transform and revamp our current archeological dig site to include areas for play, learning, and an additional opportunity to extend our “Education Beyond the Classroom “ on our beautiful 10 acre campus! We dream of a covered outdoor space that enhances our learning with sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, native plants, and natural elements.
Thank you to Miss Erica for sharing her background in Irish Dancing with our early childhood classes today to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and for lending her talent to our after-school enrichment offerings this year!
GHA's Annual Auction is this Saturday, but you can get a jump start on bidding on select items from the Silent Auction online NOW! https://www.auctria.com/auction/GHAaspire
It wouldn't be the week of the Annual Auction without the homemade jam and smoked cheese sale, courtesy of GHA Alum Parent, Kat Wilson! 100% OF THE PROCEEDS GO TO GHA! We are so appreciative of Kat's generosity. Swing by the courtyard Tues-Wed, fittingly surrounded by the spring bulbs that are starting to pop up and that were lovingly planted by Kat over her many years at GHA.
Gather round! Getting an up-close and personal look at a science experiment in Ms. Ashley's pre-k class connected to recent read-alouds about clouds and the weather.
Science Specialist Ms. Janie shared her highlight of the week as challenging our third graders to create an original game or activity to apply their understanding of magnetic force and then teach a Kindergarten little buddy how to play. What fun!
A peek into a typical week at GHA. Where are the desks and chairs, you may ask? We use them too, but our learners tend to be huddled together, on the move, or outdoors!
Happy Move Up Day! Our rising K-5th graders spent the morning in their upcoming grade-level's classroom to get a glimpse into what's to come next year. Our soon-to-be middle schoolers enjoyed an incredible Washington State wildlife exhibition courtesy of Tacoma Nature Center too!
It may be mid-winter, but we're thinking summer! The summer camp catalog will be sent out again in this evening's e-news if you missed it last week. Sign-up at: https://our-school-gha.square.site/
Curious about K-5? Share your morning with us on Tuesday, March 7 from 9-10am to learn about the GHA elementary experience in anticipation of the '23/24 school year. RSVP requested: [email protected].
Happy 100th Day of School! First Grade wowed us with some fraction facts at the Friday assembly to mark the milestone.
We love our community and its small businesses! Yesterday, GHA third graders delivered valentines to an assortment of locally-operated shops in the Harbor. Hoping they felt the love!
Prospective families are invited to join us Tuesday, March 7 from 9-10am for an open house style event focused on our elementary offerings for the '23/24 school year. We had another visit from our friend Mr. Chris with Pierce Conservation District. He taught 3rd-5th grades about Riparian Zones. Did you know that the land next to an estuary is just as important as the stream itself? Wide natural areas are necessary to provide shade, attract bugs and filter ground water to keep a stream happy. The depletion of these areas largely influence the salmon population decline. In response, we built models of a “dream stream” to show a healthy habitat for salmon.
Sliding into the weekend after another action-packed week of learning at GHA! A student-centered, inquiry-based approach is at the heart of our elementary program. Schedule a personal tour or RSVP to our March 7th K-5 Preview Day to experience the GHA difference. [email protected]
Lovely words from one of yesterday's K-5 Preview Day guests. Schedule a tour and experience how GHA's elementary program offers an education beyond the classroom!
Meet the newest additions to our 4th grade classroom from Minter Creek Hatchery! As we welcomed this experiential learning opportunity INTO the classroom, we also sent our learners OUT to the field. Kindergarten and 1st grades enjoyed the Pierce College Science Dome's immersive and interactive planetarium today.
Authors abound at GHA! Our first and third grade classes are showcasing winter writing to their families and other grade-levels today. GHA parents and caregivers are an integral part of our community, and we understand students thrive when given authentic audiences and purposes to share their learning.
May this MLK Jr. Day spark reflection, inspiration and action. GHA students explored his legacy in developmentally-responsive ways: our Kindergarteners presented themes from his life at the school assembly, while our upper-elementary students responded to music from the Civil Rights era and are drafting "I Have a Dream" papers of their own connected to racial justice, the climate, and more.
An education beyond the classroom looks like a middle schooler in Arizona recognizing GHA Art and Ms. Ana upon placing in a state-wide art competition! Congratulations Cayden, and thank you for the shout-out!
RSVP for our K-5 Preview Day, Thursday, Jan. 26 from 11am-12pm, to learn more! [email protected]
Then and now! A GHA parent sent us this photo of her sister and friend attending school here -- nearly 40 years ago! Can you guess where it was taken on campus? Maintaining its values of student-centered, experiential learning, GHA has grown from a one-room schoolhouse to now serving preschool to fifth grade learners who represent 17 zip codes!

Outdoor PE and "small moments" writing -- snow edition! ❄️
Family, dinosaurs, and fire trucks are just a few of the things our Evergreen preschoolers named on their gratitude tree. We're grateful for our GHA community this Thanksgiving.
An education beyond the classroom means learning in the field -- students and teachers alike, near and far! Here are third-fifth graders at Donkey Creek this afternoon and Teacher Diana saying hello from her studies in Italy!
A beautiful Fall day for a leaf chromatography and pigment molecule experiment in Science! 🍂🌿🍁🌱
'Tis the season for gratitude -- from a heartfelt parent testimonial to a 3rd-5th grade thankfulness project. It also wouldn't be the week before Thanksgiving without holiday garlands and wreaths arriving, thanks to our amazing SFN team!

As much as we enjoy sending our students OUT into the field, we equally love inviting our parents and families IN to our classrooms! Pictured here, a third grade campfire-style author's celebration and our fourth and fifth grade Spanish projects. The GHA Difference includes easy, open, and ongoing connection to your child's education.
If you attended last night's Annual General Meeting, you got the first look at our new logo + tagline and walked away with a GHA car window sticker fresh off the press! We are excited to continue to showcase HOW we provide an education beyond the classroom and to unveil more of the re-design over the coming weeks, including a school store for apparel/swag and a new website.
Celebrating over 40 years of joyful discovery, Gig Harbor Academy takes advantage of the natural questions that arise in a child’s expanding life experiences and turns that curiosity into educational opportunities. Gig Harbor Academy created a unique culture where educational professionals and parents collaborate to ensure academic rigor and social success. Teachers know each child’s strengths and tailor the curriculum so achievements can be measured in individual growth, allowing children to get lost in learning…not in the crowd. All of this takes place on a ten-acre campus, bordered by wetlands, where children are engaged in environmental awareness, stewardship, and natural observations.
