What if winning didn’t mean someone else had to lose?
This week at Mentor Camp, our students wrestled with a simple but powerful idea: What if the best outcome wasn’t winning against someone else, but winning with them?
To put that belief to the test, we gave teams a challenge: collect as many balls as possible.
Predictably, the competition kicked in. Teams guarded resources, raced one another, and even sabotaged the competition in pursuit of the win.
Then we paused & introduced a new lens: What if everyone could win?
Almost instantly, everything changed. Students began communicating across teams, sharing resources, encouraging one another, and redefining what success looked like. The challenge shifted from me versus you to us together.
The lesson wasn’t about a game.
It was about the kind of school culture we want to build.
One where students celebrate one another’s successes, lift each other through challenges, and understand that helping someone else succeed doesn’t diminish their own success.
Because sometimes the greatest victory isn’t winning.
It’s creating a win-win. 💙
