It's truly remarkable to witness the power of community and the impact it can have on young minds. The GHTSF, led by a dedicated group of volunteer parents, works tirelessly throughout the year to raise funds and create opportunities for our deserving students. Sports Beat: Tides win district title, rise to No. 1 in RPI rankings - Gig Harbor Now The 1-0 win over Silas allowed Gig Harbor to rise to No. 1 in the WIAA's RPI rankings. The state tournament is next.

Playoff update:

⚾️ Baseball: Gig Harbor beat Prairie, 12-4, on Tuesday to clinch a state tournament berth. The Tides play a District 3 semifinal game at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, against Timberline.

⚽︎ Soccer: Gig Harbor beat Central Kitsap, 2-1, on Tuesday to advance to the District 3 championship game against Silas at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. The Tides have already clinched a state soccer tournament berth.

Sports Beat: Gig Harbor leads league, Peninsula in second - Gig Harbor Now %

We could not be more excited to have Ashley Stolhand on our team! Roll Tides! 💙🌊💙🌊

Ashley Stolhand, currently an instructional facilitator for the Department of Learning and Innovation, has accepted the role as Gig Harbor High School's new assistant principal.

Stolhand is a veteran educator, and her values of team building, along with her skills as an organized leader with experience across many cultures made her stand out as a candidate for this position.

“I’m excited to join the GHHS team and looking forward to the adventure ahead. I love the deep sense of community at the school, and the commitment of staff and students to learning. Roll Tides, and game on!” Stolhand said.

Stolhand started her journey in education in 2008 as a substitute teacher for the Menomonie Unified School District. She worked as a Spanish, History, and Social Studies teacher for 10 years at Fremont Union High School District, before joining PSD in 2020 as an instructional facilitator. She is currently working towards earning her Principal Certificate from Gonzaga University, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Capella University.

We are excited to have Stoland join our school community as a leader. Please join us in welcoming her to the Tides family!

Sports Beat: Strong group returns for Gig Harbor golf - Gig Harbor Now The Tides golf team finished eighth in the state last year. This year they are looking to add a league title to the trophy case.

The Peninsula School District, in partnership with Tom Taylor YMCA and Resurrection Church, invites families to attend “Parents’ Tech Night” from 6 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23.

This free event, hosted at Tom Taylor YMCA, will help equip parents with resources to help their kids engage with technology in healthy, helpful ways. There will be information and discussion about safe use of smartphones, online videos, and more!

🏀 The Gig Harbor girls clinched a state tournament berth on Friday, Feb. 17, with a 51-40 win over Central Kitsap.

🏀 The Gig Harbor boys play for the district championship today at 4 p.m. at Auburn High. The Tides have already qualified for state.

Sports Beat: Tides beat Timberline, play for district title - Gig Harbor Now Also this week: Gig Harbor's girls play winner-to-state game against Central Kitsap and Mat Classic begins.

At the end of 2022, OpenAI released a new tool called ChatGPT. While many school districts have considered blocking and banning the use of this new tool from their schools, at PSD we considered how we could innovate with ChatGPT to create more educational opportunities.

When the second half of the 2022-2023 school year started, PSD staff began visiting classrooms to co-teach lessons on AI using ChatGPT at multiple grade levels. A Gig Harbor High School English class spent a week in January working on “developing a critical eye” by using ChatGPT to learn about how AI learns human language, how to spot AI generated misinformation, how to identify deep fakes online, and how to use AI for beneficial purposes.

Gig Harbor defeated Mountain View of Vancouver, 70-67, in overtime last night (Feb. 11). The Tides advance in the district tournament and face Timberline on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Auburn High. Timberline was the only team to beat Gig Harbor this season, having done so twice.
