Four babies hatched from our chickens…Moonshine always gets broody. She was given chicks last year. This year we let her hatch specific eggs.

I really wanted the dark ones to work out which ended up not being fertile. And I really wanted the very light colored one to work as they are my favorite chickens eggs.

I’m pretty sure I narrowed down what kind of hen they came from except 1.

And I’m not sure if it’s from our late Welsummer roo or the Speckled Sussex rooster.

We have baby chicks…I put 10 eggs under a broody hen.

I candled them at day 15….8 chicks were growing.

Checked on them last night Day 22. There were 4 baby chicks…NOT in the nesting box I guess 5 hatched but one had passed away. I tossed the 2 eggs that weren’t fertile. There were 2 that had chicks in it but were not warm anymore. Since it was dark I put mom back on the eggs and put the baby chicks under mom. Not sure if it will work like that BUT…fingers crossed.

There was one egg with a small hole and you could see the chick. The chick didn’t survive its escape. I asked my kiddo if he wanted to open the egg. We will likely do that on a video later.

Another update!! 7/20/26

Looks like they did the deed again today…stuck for 17 minutes. Hopefully she’s pregnant so that her body stop smelling like she’s in heat and Ranger can calm down a little bit. 😳

Update 7/15/26
Rousey and Ranger have done the deed. This time they were tied (stuck) together for 32 minutes. Ouch…For Rousey’s sake, Ranger was calm, which is out of character for him.

Assuming all goes well and babies are starting to be created, this is our TENTATIVE due date.

We do have a waitlist started. If you would like to be on the list let me know by sending me a message. *I cannot message out from my business page so YOU MUST message me.
