NEW YORK (AP) — Jose Collado settled in at a clean white table in a sunlit room, sang a few bars and injected himself with he**in. After years of shooting up on streets and rooftops, he was in one of the first two facilities in the country where local officials are allowing illegal drug use in ord...

YOU ARE ENOUGH.

How might your world be different if you remembered this each day?

Even small changes can have significant effects. According to research published in PubMed (Clinical Validation of Reduced Alcohol Consumption After Treatment for Alcohol Dependence Using the World Health Organization Risk Drinking Levels), “Any reduction in...drinking level during treatment was associated with significantly fewer alcohol-related consequences and improved mental health at the end of treatment and for up to 1 year posttreatment.”
If you are ready to start making small changes, I’d love to help. Class stars in 2 days. Check the link in my bio for more information!

If you are considering using harm reduction for your drinking, here is one way you can get started.

Brainstorm all of the ways you could make a change—there are no mistakes in a brainstorm.

Look at your list.

Cross off all of the things that might be too hard.

Look at what is left and pick ONE thing off your list that you know you could do without a doubt.

If there is nothing you can do without a doubt, break down what is left on your list into smaller goals.

The point is to come up with a goal that you know you can do, so that you will be able to achieve it. Achieving a goal will give you momentum. Which will give you confidence. Which will make you more likely to reach your other drinking goals.

Baby steps are the name of the game.

Here are some of the things my clients have come up with as they consider ways to make changes with their drinking.
*eat before drinking
*planning an alcohol free day
*counting drinks and having a hard stop number
*drinking one less drink today than yesterday
*alternating alcohol and alcohol-free drinks
*don’t mix alcohol with other depressants
*planning transportation

The options are endless. What might you be willing to try?

Download my free guide to drinking less (link in bio) if you are ready to make a change with your drinking. Shoot me a DM if you want me to personally let you know when I open up my next online class (coming soon—this month!).

One of my favorite things in the world is helping people reach their goals by using harm reduction.

Especially people who aren’t sure if using harm reduction is even a possibility for them. And those who don’t even know that harm reduction is a thing.

The surprised looks I get from folks when I explain to them that abstinence isn’t the only way and that I will hold HOPE for them whatever path they go down.

How do you know if using harm reduction for your drinking is a good choice for you?

Here are some questions to help you decide.
*do you want to be safer with your drinking?
*do you want to drink less?
*do you want to have fewer hangovers?
*do you feel uncomfortable going to 12 step meetings?
*are you not sure whether you want to quit?
*do you want to make any change with alcohol at all?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, using harm reduction to address your drinking may be a good choice!

If you are curious how you could use harm reduction for your drinking, feel free to grab my free guide to drinking less (in bio link). It will give you 3 steps that I use with my clients.

If you like what you see and want to jump in depth with me for this work, keep your eye out on this page because I will soon be offering my next round of “So You Think You Can Drink Less? You Can!”

If you want me to let you know when class sign ups are live, shoot me a DM.

I would LOVE to have you in class!

You can use harm reduction with gambling too.

My clients who identify gambling as a problem say gambling and smoking are soooo intertwined.

I haven’t been in a casino since COVID, but wonder if people are smoking less inside because of concerns about the virus or not being able to keep face coverings on? And if they then gamble less? Has anyone been to a casino since the pandemic? Do you have some anecdotal information for us?

For those doing online gambling, some systems do have the self appraisal pop-up to help you stay on track and they also have limits you can set for yourself, as well as breaks you can set for yourself. Try them out and see if those help you reach your goals!
