JUST MATH JUST MATH: math tutoring online w/private math tutor, Melanie Sittler MSEd MBA. Math tutoring for How humiliating!

Once upon a time, there was a girl who counted on her fingers in primary school, never knew when to stop "borrowing" in elementary school, and went on to cry at the teachers desk (in front of her classmates) over not understanding how to calculate percent of a number in middle school. When she unsurprisingly struggled through Prealgebra, her mom took a college algebra class at night (after working

all day) to help her with Algebra 1. Unfortunately, her mom earned a "D" in the class, so the little girl had to go at Algebra 1 alone. Fast forward... that girl went on to earn a Bachelors degree in MATHEMATICS from the University of Pittsburgh (Main Campus), serve as a public school MATH teacher, a MATH department head, a school administrator, a MATHEMATICS and School Leadership Cluster Leader for an affiliate of the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) - Americas Choice... and... wait for it...she is "the" owner and instructor at JUST MATH. Give your son/daughter the relatable and attentive math teacher that he/she deserves. Give your son/daughter Melanie - the owner and instructor at JUST MATH. Melanie knows first hand what it's like to struggle with math AND to finally figure it out.

Can Both Be True At The Same Time❓

Yesterday,

I took Luna (my pup) outside for a walk.

I don’t know why I was so awe struck,
When I looked in the sky
To find a beautiful, fluffy white cloud
Directly next to a very dark black cloud.

Because moments earlier,
I was explaining to a prospective client...

Yes,
Both can be true…

Your son/daughter could have certainly:

✅ Passed his/her “Algebra 1” class at school last year (2024-2025) and moved on to the next math class this year (2025-2026)

AND

❌ Not scored ‘Proficient’ or ‘Advanced’ on the “Keystone Algebra 1” exam.

So,
As you view my imagery from yesterdays walk…

If you’re here in ,

The next Keystone Exam testing windows are:

✏️ December 3-17, 1025
✏️ January 5-16, 2026

Local control:
Districts decide which window they want to use.

If you’re not in Pennsylvania,
Your state likely has an Algebra 1 exam.

As the 1st report card period closes,
Let’s remember,

Both can,
And I would argue,
HAVE to be true
At the same time…

It’s never just about a report card “grade.”

Both Have To Be True:

✔️Classroom performance.
✔️Long term retention + application.

If anyone wants help with Algebra 1,
Msg me.

Fun Fact as the 1st report card period closes in ⬇️

WHO:

High school 🏈 football player

WHAT:

Sitting on a “D” one week before the end of the report card period

Then 🪄magic happened…

WHAT:

Four, one-on-one, 30min, remote sessions

RESULT:

He scored an 84% and 85% on the last two assessments of the report card period.

Ending with a “C.”

Is there room to grow further?

Of course 😘

And I’m in his corner moving forward.

He already asked me about prep 💪🏼

Wise young man.

Are you letting current state drive future decisions❓

Dirty little secret:
I SUCKED at math my entire K-12 experience.

What if sucking at math drove my future decisions?

That would’ve meant:

▪️I never would’ve pursued a MATH degree from a D-1 university University of Pittsburgh

▪️I never would’ve earned my 5th year teaching certificate.

▪️I never would’ve taught for Baltimore County Public Schools

▪️I never would’ve taught for Calvert County Public Schools - CCPS

▪️I never would’ve earned my MSEd.

▪️I never would’ve earned my School Administrator Certification

I never would’ve taught for,
And consulted with,

The many school districts, education management companies, non-profits, and universities that I have.

▪️I never would’ve had the courage to bootstrap JUST MATH(currently celebrating it’s 20th year 🎉💪🏼)

▪️I never would’ve earned my MBA in Strategic Leadership

Which means,

All of the students I have helped,

All of the teachers and administrators I have helped,

Never would’ve been able to receive my support.

Think about that.

🔥 Don’t think small🔥

Your current state does not determine your end game.

Thanks, Cody Sperber

Whew !
Yesterday's Pittsburgh Steelers game was a close one!

"If you make a mistake, make it fast." (Cam Heyward)

Parents,
Math moves fast in middle school, and grades might look fine.
But free points can camouflage true understanding.

Kids get hours of practice to perfect their craft for fall ball,
To nail that dance routine,
Those cheers.

Are we quickly brushing off a point lost here,
Or a half-point lost there,

Due to a minor math mistake (or something we believe to be cosmetic in nature)

When really,
It is a "misunderstanding" that needs more time to unravel,
Before it morphs into something later?

Want me to take a peek at your son or daughter’s work to spot mistakes vs. misunderstandings? Find my contact info in the ABOUT section!
