Four area high school stars will make history this weekend when they compete in the first IHSA girls’ state wrestling meet in Bloomington.
From left, Avery Schlickman of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher, Berlin Kiddoo of Westville/Georgetown-Ridge Farm, Ava Vasey of Unity and Lexi Ritchie of Unity visited The News-Gazette ahead of their big opportunity.
"I’ve seen a lot of people go through high school that didn’t have the opportunity to be able to have (an IHSA girls’ state tournament),” Schlickman tells Preps Editor Colin Likas for a story that publishes in Thursday's print editions. “It means a lot to me.”
Said Vasey: “I’m just glad I get to go out and represent our school and our community and just be a good role model for a lot of our younger girls.”
