NAEMT Instructor and SMR Asst Director Craig Menefee finished up a PHTLS course for Balentine Ambulance Service this week.

Prehospital Trauma Life Support is an internationally recognized trauma education program developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

The course teaches prehospital providers a systematic, evidence-based approach to the assessment and management of trauma patients. Emphasis is placed on identifying and treating life-threatening injuries using critical thinking and rapid decision-making while minimizing delays to definitive care.

Key topics include:
* Trauma assessment and pt prioritization
* Airway and ventilation management
* Hemorrhage control and shock
* Head, spine, chest, abdominal, and extremity trauma
* Special populations (pediatric, geriatric, and pregnant trauma patients)
* Team communication and trauma system integration

PHTLS combines interactive lectures, hands-on skills stations, and realistic patient scenarios to improve provider confidence and optimize outcomes for injured patients.

SMR was honored to participate in Gibsland Bank & Trust’s annual employee training by providing the American Heart Association Heartsaver® course. GBT employees earned certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid, while also completing the American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed® course.

Every newly trained responder strengthens our community and increases the chance that someone will be there when help is needed most. Congratulations to everyone who completed the training, and thank you to GBT for investing in the safety of your employees and the communities you serve.

We strive to provide quality, evidence-based training at SMR. When we participate in quality training from other organizations, we like to promote their brand and highlight what they offer. Norse Tactical recently provided a sustainment training demo in Minden, and it was a phenomenal event.

Minden Police Department patrol officers and SRT members participated in an all-day Demo/Introduction to Close Quarters Tactics (CQT) course conducted by Norse Tactical.

Founded in 2010, Norse Tactical has grown into one of the nation’s most established private tactical training organizations. Their mission is to provide the highest-quality training programs available, giving law enforcement professionals the greatest possible advantage in high-risk situations through practical, principle-based instruction rooted in real-world law enforcement and military experience.

Throughout the day, officers were introduced to the fundamentals of close quarters tactics, emphasizing threat assessment, team communication, movement, and maintaining control in dynamic environments. The training provided valuable concepts and techniques that enhance officer safety, teamwork, and operational readiness.

A sincere thank you to Norse Tactical for sharing their knowledge and experience, and to all of the Minden Police Department personnel who invested in continuing their professional development and commitment to serving our community.

We were honored to be recently invited to teach the American Heart Association Heartsaver® course for Gibsland Bank & Trust!

The Heartsaver course is designed for the layperson who wants to be prepared to respond in an emergency. Participants learn high-quality CPR, AED use, choking management, and various first aid topics—skills that can make the difference between life and death before professional responders arrive.
