Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School

Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School Early childhood (pre-kindergarten) through grade 12 independent school accredited by NYSAIS and AWSNA

Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School (HVS) nurtures the artistic, academic, physical, and moral development of the growing child through an age appropriate curriculum inspired by philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner. We strive to create a healthy and balanced learning environment where children build living connections to the natural world while cultivating social responsibility, personal excellence

, and the practical capacities to meet the challenges of the future. At Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School, we enjoy a 500-acre campus surrounded by the cultivated fields, gardens, and forests of Hawthorne Valley Farm, an active Biodynamic farm. The beauty of tended nature and the seasons of farm life provide exceptional educational resources built into the founding ideals of Hawthorne Valley. Educational research continues at the Farmscape Ecology Program, Center for Social Research, and other Hawthorne Valley Association programs and initiatives, helping to cultivate reverence for life, a respect for the earth, practical skills, and power of initiative through firsthand scientific, artistic, and work experiences. All of this is enhanced through an intimate connection with the life of the Valley.

We are excited to share an amazing collaboration with Ma Earth to raise funds for expanding our Biodiversity Trail at Hawthorne Valley! Ma Earth is a global crowdfunding platform that helps support land stewardship projects by matching community generosity with additional funding.

The Biodiversity Trail was imagined and built through a collaboration between farmers, ecologists, students, and staff at Hawthorne Valley, in partnership with Greenagers. Our high school students were involved in every part of the process: from mapping the route and identifying areas of ecological and agricultural significance to physically building the trail and hand-painting interpretive signage.

Now we have the opportunity to grow the trail, and invite you to help make it happen! All gifts given through Ma Earth will be matched in an exciting way: this campaign uses quadratic funding, which means the number of donors matters more than the size of each gift. A flood of $5 and $10 donations will unlock more matching dollars than a single large gift, so every contribution, no matter how small, genuinely moves the needle!

Hawthorne Valley’s Biodiversity Trail began with a desire to sustain biodiversity within a working farm landscape while helping people better understand the ecosystems around them. The trail moves through pasture,...

Today we’re excited to announce that Hawthorne Valley has been selected to participate in a fundraising campaign! Ma Earth is a global crowdfunding platform that helps support land stewardship projects by matching community generosity with additional funding. ✨✨

Your gift will help us expand the trail, create new interpretive signs and artistic installations, organize volunteer stewardship days and public walks, and continue building this shared space where agriculture, ecology, education, and art meet. 💚💙

Every donation—and every share—helps build momentum for the campaign. Support the Biodiversity Trail on Ma Earth via the link: https://maearth.com/hawthorne-valley-asso-3393df8a/ddced54d! 🌎

Congratulations to the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School Class of 2026! 🎓💙

On June 13, we celebrated the graduation of an exceptional group of students, with words of wisdom from a true HVS legend: Teacher Emeritus Eric Müller, who spent 30 years teaching English and Drama in our High School and whose Kapteyn Prize-winning career has touched countless lives. His charge to the graduates: ideas met with openness can “transform into ideals, which can continue to grow and change throughout their lives”.

This class was accepted to 30+ colleges and universities throughout the US and abroad, and will be pursuing everything from nursing and aerospace engineering to music production and design. They’re talented and ready for what’s next and we couldn’t be prouder. 💚

This March, Eric G. Muller taught his final Main Lesson block on Parzival at our school as he retires from day-to-day teaching to pursue other interests. Many alumni likely remember delving into the universal themes of this medieval epic with Mr. Müller, making connections between the past and modern life. It was a fitting block with which to end his 30 years of service to our school. Mr. Muller will continue to be an active member of our community, and we are thrilled to share that he will serve as the Commencement Speaker at our graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026 on Saturday, June 13 at 2pm. All are warmly welcome to attend!

We are pleased to honor Eric G. Müller, who taught his final Main Lesson block this spring after 30 years of service to the school.

With hearts full of gratitude, we extend our deepest thanks to everyone who helped make Light Up the Night such an extraordinary evening. 💜✨✨

What unfolded was far more than a benefit concert. It was a powerful expression of community. From months of planning and weekly meetings to countless hours of volunteer labor, donations of food and drink, behind-the-scenes coordination, and generous gifts of time, talent, and resources, this event was built by many hands and carried by a shared commitment to our school and its future.

We are deeply grateful to our parent and student volunteers, business sponsors, donors, and supporters. Special thanks go to the remarkable musicians who donated their artistry: Melissa Auf der Maur, Juliette Commagere, Joachim Cooder, Ry Cooder, Aaron Dessner, Gail Ann Dorsey, Ben and Nini Gebert (HAERTS), Rachel Loshak and all of our amazing student musicians – and to Walton Goggins for lending his presence and support (and voice!) to the evening. We are also especially thankful to Basilica Hudson for generously providing their beautiful space and making an enormous contribution to the success of the event.
👏👏👏👏

The results were bountiful, not only in the funds raised, which will directly support our work, but in the spirit of goodwill, generosity, and connection that filled the room. Light Up the Night reminded us what is possible when a community comes together around a shared purpose.

Thank you for helping us create a night that will be remembered for years to come.💫
