GIV Day sparked something bigger than a single day of service. Students share how it inspired them to keep showing up- for Gettysburg, for each other, and for the causes that matter. Community service doesn’t end at graduation. It starts here.

Read about our Community Impact Awards recipient, Sema, and her summer project!

I am working with the Gettysburg Human Relations Commission (HRC), an organization that promotes equity, addresses discrimination, and supports an inclusive community within the Borough of Gettysburg. This project focuses on developing outreach strategies and educational materials to increase the HRC's visibility and impact in the community. I also assist with planning and volunteer at the annual Juneteenth celebration.

Throughout these past 8 weeks, I have seen a new side of Gettysburg. My perspective of this town has truly changed from a place I solely associate with going to class and living a college life to a vibrant and loving community that also happens to be home to 2,200 college students. Monday nights at the Painted Turtle Farm, teaching ESL classes, and sharing food at Cocinando con Casa have shown me the power of shared community and how deeply care, service, and connection can shape a place. I have learned so much about myself, my newfound friends, and the town of Gettysburg as a whole.
