The latest from Cultural Heritage Partners, URGENT ACTION NEEDED:

We are hearing that President Trump and certain Senators are still considering a deal this week to introduce "permitting reform" that severely weakens Section 106.

Four key Senators need to hear from us - starting tonight and through Friday 5PM Eastern. Your grassroots Coalition is approaching 900 orgs and 9 million citizens. We can be LOUD. Please ask all of your organization's members to call the following officials and say simply this:

"No permitting reform that weakens Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act."

That's it. If you have members who live in these four states, they should certainly mention that at the start of the call. But everyone should call. Volume matters.

They woke the bear. Let them hear us roar.

Last week, MAAC signed onto Cultural Heritage Partners’ (CHP) open letter to Congress opposing efforts underway to dismantle and severely weaken Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). MAAC joined 600+ organizations, including Tribal Nations, state and local agencies, preservation groups, and professional organizations, representing over 5 million Americans, opposing changes that would weaken, or remove entirely, federal protections for our Nation’s historic and cultural resources and heritage.

Last week, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation voted to advance devastating changes to the Section 106 process of the National Historic Preservation Act, the law that's protected historic and cultural places for 60 years.

If adopted, these rules would eliminate public participation in federal preservation decisions and even strip protection from significant landscapes like the Grand Canyon.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸:
