Before our second colloquium takes place this week, we want to look back on the last colloquium 🔙
Professor Kerry Wallach spoke on her research about Rahel Szalit. Rahel Szalit (1888-1942) was a prize-winning painter and perhaps the best modern female illustrator. The colloquium gave answers to questions like "How can we research and recover the story of an artist who was murdered in the Holocaust and whose works were destroyed?"

Back in September the students from Professor Wallach's class on "Glitter and Doom: Weimar German Culture" went on a field trip to the Phillips Collection in Washington DC. It featured works by Dada and Expressionist artists who were active in Germany 🔝
After visiting the museum, the group went for a walk around Dupont Circle, a major DC landmark and ate delicious Thai food ☺️

A couple of weeks ago we had our traditional welcome picnic. We enjoyed seeing each other again in person and eating delicious food while chatting 😊🥗

🎥 "Kaiser", "Manchester United gegen Bayern München", "Der Gettysburg-Einbürgerungstest" and "Emil und die Hacker-Detektive" - these are the names of this year's Vollhorst Awards winner movies! 🎉 As you can see from the pictures, the student actors did a great job shooting under extraordinary circumstances - for example, even complying with mask-wearing rules when committing tyrannicide! 😷 Herzlichen Glückwunsch to the winners! 💐

Last week saw this semester's first (remote) German Studies Colloquium. Prof. Richard Page gave an intriguing presentation on "Pennsylvania German Language and Culture: Past, Present and Future". Pictured is one of the churches where Prof. Page conducted his research. Thanks to Prof. Page and the many students that joined!

Today's Q&A with Matthias Freihof, the main actor in "Coming Out" (1989), was nothing short of fascinating. Dankeschön to everyone who came and asked questions, and of course to Matthias himself!
