Join us for an insightful talk, “The Dilemmas of Home and Return in the Black Imaginative Experience,” featuring Dr. David Afriyie Donkor, Associate Professor of Performance Studies and Africana Studies at Texas A&M University.
This talk is supported by literary excerpts from Ama Ata Aidoo’s “The Dilemma of a Ghost” and Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun”. Dr. Donkor will explore the concept of home as something imagined, constructed, and contested across the Black diaspora and within America itself. The discussion will span from the Sankofa tradition to the lived experiences of African Americans who have longed for, journeyed to, and reckoned with the meaning of home.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Donkor earned his PhD in Performance Studies from Northwestern University and engages theatre and performance as forms of public address in Africana cultures.
