Congratulations to Courtney Berggren, our GMSD Summer Step Challenge Winner! 👟🎉

We are excited to celebrate an incredible month of movement, motivation, and staff wellness. Throughout the month of June, many of our GMSD staff members continued showing up in our schools to support Summer Success, ESY, district operations, and all the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our district moving forward.

And they were literally moving! Every step taken during the month of June represented a commitment to personal wellness, energy, and balance during a busy summer season.

A huge thank you to Grivet Outdoors and Daniel Shay’s Salon for helping us celebrate Courtney with a special prize. Community partnerships like these make it possible for us to recognize and encourage the people who pour so much into our students, schools, and district.

Staff wellness matters because healthy, supported, and energized educators and staff are better able to care for others. Whether it is walking the halls, supporting students, preparing programs, or taking a few extra steps for themselves, every bit of movement counts.

Congratulations again to Courtney, and thank you to everyone who participated in the June Summer Step Challenge! 💙👟 Germantown Municipal School District

🌿✨ Nature & Namaste Summer Camp ✨🌿

Students are getting the chance to slow down, move with purpose, create with their hands, and connect with the world around them through Nature & Namaste Summer Camp!

Each themed week, including Create Your Calm and Nature & Namaste, provides engaging, hands-on projects and structured movement activities in both classroom and outdoor settings. From creative calming activities to nature-based exploration and mindful movement, students are learning that wellness can be fun, meaningful, and something they can practice in everyday life.

Camps like this are so important because they support the whole child. Students are not only staying active, but they are also building skills connected to self-regulation, creativity, focus, emotional wellness, and appreciation for the outdoors. These experiences help students learn healthy ways to manage stress, express themselves, and feel more connected to their bodies, their peers, and their environment.

We are grateful for opportunities that allow students to grow, explore, breathe, create, and have fun in such a positive and meaningful way! 🌱🧘‍♀️🎨Germantown Municipal School District

Summer Success Camp brought the energy yesterday! 🎉

Students had the chance to take on inflatable obstacle courses, and while it looked like pure fun, and it definitely was, activities like this also connect to meaningful learning in some pretty cool ways.

As students climbed, balanced, crawled, jumped, and raced through the course, they were using important physical skills like coordination, agility, balance, and endurance. They were also engaging in real-world STEM thinking. Obstacle courses naturally encourage students to problem-solve, test different strategies, think about force and motion, adjust their speed, consider angles and balance, and figure out the most efficient way to move through each challenge.

That’s the beauty of hands-on learning. Students can explore science, movement, engineering concepts, and teamwork without even realizing how much they’re learning.

A big part of Summer Success Camp is creating opportunities that are active, engaging, and memorable, and yesterday was a perfect example of learning in motion! 💪🧠

Another great GMSD summer camp wrapped up yesterday with the conclusion of Pickleball Camp! 🏓☀️

It has been exciting to see students spending part of their summer staying active, learning new skills, and having fun through opportunities like this. Camps like Pickleball give students a chance to build confidence, connect with others, and enjoy new experiences in a positive and engaging environment.

One of the things that makes GMSD special is the wide variety of summer camp opportunities available to our community. From athletics and the arts to music, culinary skills, poetry, yoga, and so much more, these camps help students explore their interests, discover new passions, and stay connected throughout the summer months.

We are grateful for the many staff members, instructors, and program leaders who help make these experiences possible for our students and families each summer! Germantown Municipal School District

Today was another great example of how we are continuing to support the amazing staff serving our students and district this summer! 💙

We were excited to provide Sonic drinks for all of our Summer Success and ESY staff as a small way to say thank you for the energy, patience, and care they bring each day. We also coordinated Nervous System Reset mini-sessions with Miki Cristy for our Summer Success, ESY, and District Office staff.

In addition, we hosted another Recreation Thursday opportunity for our District Office staff. This week’s activity was pickleball, and we were grateful to have Greta Newhouse from the HHS Pickleball Club come out to lead the session!

Opportunities like these matter because staff wellness is more than just a nice extra — it helps create moments for encouragement, connection, stress relief, movement, and appreciation. When we invest in the well-being of our employees, we are also investing in the positive environment they create for students and each other.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today’s wellness opportunities possible, and thank you to our staff for all you do! 💙🥤🏓 Germantown Municipal School District

Congratulations to the Germantown Fire Department on earning the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold achievement award! 👏🚒

As one of only two departments in Tennessee to receive this recognition, this achievement speaks volumes about GFD’s commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based heart attack and stroke care when every second matters.

We are honored to partner with the Germantown Fire Department throughout the year to provide meaningful training opportunities for the Germantown community. The Houston Hearts Club is truly blessed to have such outstanding partners who share a passion for saving lives and making a lasting impact. A huge thank you to the Houston High School Volleyball team for coming out to FHES Summer Success Camp to provide auto detailing for our educators!

Not only did they help get vehicles cleaned and shining, but they also showed what it looks like when students step up to serve the people who support them every day. Activities like this are so meaningful because they give students a chance to lead, work together, support their school community, and see firsthand the impact of giving back.

We are proud of these student-athletes and grateful for the positive energy they brought to our staff today! Houston High School Germantown Municipal School District

Our Summer Success Camp & ESY Camp staff at FHES brought the energy today for our Minute to Win It challenge!

It was fun, competitive, and full of laughs as staff jumped in, cheered each other on, and made the most of a quick wellness break during a busy summer day. Opportunities like this may seem simple, but they matter. They give our staff a chance to reset, connect, and enjoy a little friendly competition while continuing the important work they do for our students.

We are so thankful for the incredible staff members serving our summer programs and love finding ways to support, celebrate, and bring a little extra joy to their day!
