Elevated Learning Solutions is a holistic, academic support company that offers a variety of collabotative services, including, but not limited to academic tutoring, executive functioning coaching, parent coaching, psychoeducational testing, and IEP support and advocacy. All academic tutors and coaches have a background in special education and we work hand-in-hand with our student's teachers, parents, and any other support professionals in their 'edusphere' to provide the most informed support team possible, while also maximizing reinforcement opportunities and minimizing strategy fatigue. This story, written by 13 year old Joelle Schaeffer, with the support of her mother, Missy Schaeffer, is gently neuroaffirming and informative. (And the book functions as a great fidget when youre being recorded by your 11yo daughter. 😊)

When quantitative information is processed through stronger, more efficient brain pathways, math becomes easier to understand and confidence grows. More worksheets aren't always the answer—better instruction often is.

A child with dyscalculia might:
• Understand a math concept when it's explained verbally but lose track of the numbers.
• Know the multiplication facts one day and seemingly forget them the next.
• Be able to perform various mathematical procedures when explicitly directly to use them, but struggle to identify when to use each one on their own.
• See every variation of a given problem as a completely different concept.
• Understand the story of a word problem without the numbers present, but then completely go blank once the numbers are involved.

When we stop asking, "Why aren't they trying harder?" and start asking, "What processing skill is getting in the way?" everything changes.
