Sign up for the 2022-2023 Robotics and Engineering class next year!

We will learn how to design, program, and experiment with our very own robot. Students will construct each robot to fit a specific in-class challenge to test their critical and creative problem solving skills. Students will also have fun competing against their classmate to see which robot is the best! In the second semester, students will also participate in a Battle Bots style competition where each robot will sumo wrestle to see who can stay in the ring the longest. Combine that with 3d printing and circuit design, and this class will be incredibly fun and informative! There are learning opportunities for anyone at any skill level!

Class will be Tuesday, 11:50 AM through 1:20 PM. Contact Laural Smith to register.

We have been traveling around the world in Geography and stopped today in Mesoamerica (specifically Belize 🇧🇿) Just like the Duke and Dutches of Cambridge did on Sunday we explored the Mayan ruins of the Sky Palace and sampled Cacau. We used the unique history of chocolate to discuss Maya and Aztec rituals and culture. For the Aztecs, Cacau literally was a form of currency. Then, chocolate played a role in colonialism that must be part of any discussion. Advancements and technology in other parts of the world then led to new developments and products that we know today. The students all had a great attitude and were willing to sample all the different percentages of Cacau.

Supreme Court backs Tennessee in water rights dispute with Mississippi 11/22/2021

Government students from last year and this year, at long last, the conflict between the states has been resolved. Every student who offered an opinion had a similar analysis as the unanimous court. Well done.

Supreme Court backs Tennessee in water rights dispute with Mississippi Mississippi sought at least $615 million in damages in a case that could have ramifications for drinking water supplies shared by other states.

Marshmallow Towers. Today in the Business/Marketing Class we had so much fun. The competition was intense. These pictures are very early in the process. It got wild at the end and I was not able to get more pictures. The objective was to make as much profit at possible. Revenue was raised the higher the tower grew. There were also some controversial bonuses. You had to be creative because there were fixed and variable cost. Marshmallows were $50 and toothpicks were $100. The students faced distractions meant to unravel them and get them off track. They were unfazed and constant professionals. Everyone made a profit.

Everyone loves an egg drop in the morning. Today, it was for all the money. With only newspaper, masking tape and half a semester of Physics they had to build a vehicle like their grade depended on it. With Dan Roberts’ leadership it was a great morning for everyone!

Dan Roberts’ Physics class had great success this morning saving defenseless eggs. This egg, however, never stood a chance. RIP. So much can be learned from success and failure.

Classes begin in four weeks. I’m teaching Economics/Government-last year every week was unpredictable and sometimes shocking, I’m hopeful for this year to be just interesting and informative. I am also teaching Elementary History, Middle School Geography and Business Law/Marketing. Stonehenge is a topic in all three of those courses! See you next month!
