Walk & Roll to school day!!🚶‍♂️🚲

10/06/2026

Walk & Roll to School Day is Wednesday, October 7!

Students at Dogwood Elementary, Farmington Elementary and Riverdale School will be walking, biking and scooting to school as part of National Walk & Roll to School Day. If you’re traveling through these areas Wednesday morning, please slow down and watch carefully for increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

For students:
• Stay alert and put away phones and earbuds so you can hear what’s happening around you.
• Use sidewalks whenever they are available.
• At crosswalks, stop at the curb and look left, right, then left again before crossing.
• Follow crossing guards’ directions and wait for traffic to clear when crossing without a guard. If traffic is congested, make eye contact with drivers before entering the street.
• If biking in the street, ride single file on the right side with traffic. Walk bikes across busy intersections.

For drivers:
• Put the phone away and eliminate distractions.
• Obey school zone speed limits and yield to pedestrians in marked and unmarked crosswalks.
• Watch for children who may be less predictable or difficult to see around parked vehicles.
• Give young cyclists plenty of space when passing.

And to the adults joining the fun: Lead by example. Stop, look and make eye contact at intersections, and keep children together in groups whenever possible.

Let’s make sure everyone has a safe trip to school! 👟🚲
