Learn the Who, What, and How of framing during this 2-hour workshop taught by local framing expert, Sonia Colonna Mathis. Bring up to 3 pieces of artwork, 16x20" or smaller, to design a frame package, prepare your artwork to exhibit, or how to DIY your own frame.

Overthinking every mark on your artwork? Our next masterclass with GAC Exhibit Artist Catherine Richardson is designed to help you through the creative process!

Mark Making Masterclass:
Over four hours, we'll explore structured, intuitive, and experimental approaches to mark making. Together we'll work with simple exercises designed to quiet the inner critic - the voice that judges, compares, or hesitates, and make more room for instinct and spontaneity. We'll begin with simple, collaborative exercise, easing into the spirit of play as a group.

Next, we'll move into individual space and time to revisit and deepen that first exercise. Followed by a focused exercise in eye-hand coordination using experimental methods, sharpening attention and responsiveness in the moment.

To close, you'll choose imagery that speaks to you, combining it with the previous exercises, to develop a composition and face any fear of creating head-on, with support and encouragement.

By the end, you'll leave with refreshing inroads for breaking through creative blocks, a few finished pieces, and hopefully a looser, freer relationship with your own creative process.

All supplies included. No experience required.

For Mohnot, organic shapes made with repurposed materials meet hand stitched linework bringing to mind the patchwork of personal identity, “I think my abstract choice is more emotional. I would say most of my shapes are repeating. In some format or the other, but it is how they are interacting every time they come together, when two shapes come together or they sit beside each other, it is their interaction that changes [their meaning],” (Mohnot). In the same manner, Dincalci adds metal as an avenue for material contrast within her compositions, creating dynamic textural interplay, “I wanted that material contrast and a friend of mine mentioned a company that cuts metal, you make an Illustrator file and they'll just cut any shape you want. And I was like, oh my God, I can put these two materials next to each other and some of these open spaces that I have when I reformat my weavings,” (Dincalci).

Virginia Headley Maserang Fine Art highlight!

Virginia Headley Maserang is a contemporary painter based in Georgetown, Texas. Her primary medium is encaustic, which is a combination of beeswax, damar tree resin, and pigment, but she often includes a variety of other media and collage to create layered surfaces rich with texture, emotive marks, and luminous color.

Join artist Amie Gonser for an engaging oil painting demonstration during our upcoming Members Open Studio Session!

Amie will share how she captures the beauty, movement, and atmosphere of the natural world and demonstrate her approach to painting clouds, sharing techniques for creating soft, luminous forms that feel weightless and full of atmosphere.

She will also explore the challenge of painting water in an impressionistic yet believable
way, demonstrating how thoughtful color choices, brushwork, reflections, and subtle
shifts in value can create the illusion of water while maintaining an expressive, painterly
quality.

Throughout the demonstration, Amie will share insights into her painting process,
including how she observes and interprets light and how she balances accurate
observation with the freedom and spontaneity of impressionistic oil painting. This
demonstration is designed to inspire artists of all levels and provide practical techniques
they can incorporate into their own work.

Free for artist level membership holders.
$10 for individual level membership holders.
Non-members can use a one-time $10 trial to attend this session.

Our printmaking workshop is back this Saturday, September 5th, from 12-2pm.

In this session, join experienced printmaking artist Emily Latham in a 2-hour tote bag printing class.

Students will create and hand-carve their own stamp design and learn how to print on a fabric tote bag. You will learn all the skills needed to continue printing textiles at home to create your own baby onesies, upcycled clothing, cloth napkins and more!

$60 for non-members | $48 for members
