Fans of J.K. Rowling, check out this awesome summer reading experience!
J.K. Rowling Introduces The Ickabog - J.K. Rowling About The Ickabog The idea for The Ickabog came to me while I was still writing Harry Potter. I wrote most of a first draft in fits and starts between Potter books, intending to publish it after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. However, after the last Potter book I wanted to take a break […]
Personally I’ve read two graphic novels over the last two days. How do you spend your rainy indoor days?
4th and 5th grade students and teachers were asked during recent Zooms what random thoughts they had in relation to the Coronavirus. They shared some interesting insights...
“I don’t like this pandemic. I am stuck in the house and can’t go to King’s Island. Like all I do is watch TV for hours or do random chores.”- Jordyn
“I don’t like that I can’t play with my friends anymore.”- Jacob and Brody
“I go outside lots of the time now. One day we stayed out for about 6 hours.”- Mickie
“I think some things are better since the pandemic happened, like not as much oil being used and not chopping down as many trees.”- Tinsley
“One thing that sticks out to me is everyone wearing masks. Masks are an accessory now. You have all these different ones now and all these different looks. That was not something you would normally wear before, much less want to show off.” -Mrs. Cook
“I am tired of hearing the word pandemic! That word wasn’t even in my vocabulary before this. “Pandemic, pandemic, pandemic” every hour! So now me and Dad just play cards every night instead of watching the news. At the end of the year when they ask us what we will toast goodbye for 2020, everyone will say “Goodbye coronavirus”; it won’t even be a question. I think things will eventually go back to normal, but it won’t be the old normal. There will be significant changes to everything.” -Clay
“I want to go back to school! I even want to take KPREP.” -Sarah
“I want to go back to school to see my friends!” -Sophia
“We can’t even go meet our neighbors. Normally I would say, “go meet those kids you’ll be in middle school with” but right now I can’t. That is a sad thing. But a good thing is that I can go outside and see birds and animals just living their lives, and they have no idea there is even a pandemic!” -Mrs. Winkle
“Remember when everyone thought that 2012 was going to be the end of the world?...I think they got the numbers wrong…” -Gabe
“There will be some changes, but I think someday we’ll wake up and it will be normal. Someday I’m gonna be able to hug people again!” -Mrs. Werkheiser
“Maybe this is mother nature’s punishment for cutting down trees.” -Trey
“I just think it sucks because we gotta stay home!” -Jeslyn
I feel you friends! All Stars, I would like to encourage you to chronicle your pandemic thoughts in whatever way works for you, journal, poems, photos, art, social media, or any other way you can think of. Many years down the road it will something interesting to look back on. It would even be interesting to write/draw/whatever what you think the future will look like after the coronavirus.
