Today our Lower Elementary classrooms joined together for the first of five Great Stories that are told at the beginning of each school year in a Montessori elementary environment. These five stories serve as an introduction to the entire Cosmic Education curriculum that is explored throughout 1st through 6th grade. The First Great Story describes the coming of the universe and invites a sense of awe and gratitude for the creation of our Earth that we all share. 🌌

One of the big shifts that Maria Montessori noticed when children enter into the Second Plane of Development, or their elementary years, is a deeper desire to engage in the social world where they are curious about others and motivated by belonging to a community.

This is why group work becomes such an important part of the Montessori experience at this stage. Children are learning with one another: sharing ideas, solving problems, debating, collaborating, and discovering how individual contributions can strengthen the whole.

At CMS the social development of the child isn’t an afterthought - it is part of the work. 🌱

Happy first few days of school!! We loved seeing everyone return to campus and can’t wait for the exciting year ahead! 💖 A big shout out to the CMS staff who have lovingly and thoughtfully prepared each space so students were welcomed into environments that were peaceful and purposeful. It takes a village to raise children, and we are so grateful to be connected with each of you in this community.
