HARBOR SWEEP PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve
Keep Georgetown Beautiful is excited to spotlight the North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), one of our Harbor Sweep partners, joining us alongside Winyah Rivers Alliance and PalmettoPride!
NERR will bring an exciting educational component to Harbor Sweep with “What’s in the Watershed?” Participants will have a chance to get a closer look at our local ecosystems through small tanks featuring local critters and marsh plants, microscopes to explore plankton and slides featuring microplastics.
Locally headquartered at the University of South Carolina Baruch Marine Field Laboratory and operate in collaboration with the Belle W. Baruch Foundation, which owns and manages the Hobcaw Barony property, the North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is dedicated to conservation, research, education, and stewardship of America’s estuaries.
It’s a great opportunity to learn more about what lives in our waterways, what we can’t see with the naked eye, and why protecting our watershed matters.
We are grateful for NERR’s partnership and for helping make Harbor Sweep both a cleanup and a hands-on learning experience! Saturday, September 11, 2026, at 8:30am East Bay Park.
