Learning has been hands-on, collaborative, and full of discovery lately in the Biomedical Sciences Village at Elkhorn Crossing School!

📐 Geometry students used vertical whiteboards to describe reflections. Students were up, collaborating, and solving problems together.

🧪 Chemistry students conducted a calorimetry lab to measure the specific heat of four different metals and calculated their percent errors.

🔍 Sophomores in Principles of Biomedical Sciences learned how to collect fingerprints and successfully lift prints.

🌱 Seniors in AP Environmental Science explored population patterns through a survivorship curve lab.

🍬 Seniors in dual-credit Anatomy and Physiology designed, created, and presented edible cell models to demonstrate their understanding of cell structures and their functions. They also stepped into leadership roles by guiding junior AP Biology students through an osmosis lab. Using dialysis tubing, students observed firsthand how the tonicity of fluids affects movement across a semipermeable membrane and connected those observations to what happens in human cells.

From collaborative problem-solving to authentic laboratory investigations and peer teaching, our Biomedical Sciences students are building knowledge, skills, and confidence brick by brick! 💗

There has been plenty of hands-on learning happening lately in our Law & Justice Village!

Our freshmen used thinking maps, partner tracing, and group presentations to learn about the people who work in a courtroom. They also created courtroom dioramas, which were judged with help from our sophomore students. Congratulations to our top designers, Sarah and Brooklyn!

Sophomores put their courtroom knowledge into action and had plenty of fun with a Batman v. Superman mock trial. We also welcomed Lt. Barrish, Officer Williams, and Officer Cook from the Georgetown Police Department, who shared information about GPD’s Explorers program and opportunities available to students.

Finally, we captured a special moment with some of our seniors on their final school picture day. From freshmen beginning to explore the justice system to seniors preparing for their next chapter, our Law & Justice students are building knowledge, skills, and futures brick by brick! 🧱💙⚖️

Our ECS students are continuing to build skills and explore future careers.

In our Engineering Village, freshmen recently designed and tested paper airplanes while exploring the engineering design process. Sophomores developed sketches of simple machines as they learned more about the principles of mechanical engineering.

Meanwhile, Media Arts students have been learning about voting procedures in social studies while also sharpening their photography and Photoshop skills.

Each hands-on experience adds another brick to the strong foundation our students are building for their futures! 💙

Welcome Wednesday!
The GSCEMS Fall 2026 EMT Program officially got underway in mid-August, and we are excited to introduce this group of future EMTs to our community!

Over the next several months, these students will spend countless hours in the classroom, practicing hands-on skills, completing clinical experiences, riding alongside EMS crews, and preparing themselves for the responsibility of caring for people on some of their most difficult days.

Becoming an EMT takes hard work, dedication, compassion, and a willingness to continue learning. What they're learning today is building the foundation for the providers they'll become tomorrow.

These students are more than just our newest EMT class-- they are the future faces of EMS, and we are excited to watch them learn, grow and find their place in emergency services.

Help us give the GSCEMS Fall 2026 EMT class a warm welcome and wish them luck as they continue their journey!

We have had a productive and exciting first few weeks at Elkhorn Crossing School! Our students have already jumped into meaningful, hands-on learning, from Star Wars-themed mock trials in the Law & Justice Village to dissections and CPR training in Health Sciences and micropipetting in Biomedical Sciences. Our Student Lighthouse Team also kicked off a great year with its first planning workshop!

We were also honored to welcome visitors from our sister city in Japan and lead them on a tour of ECS. It has been wonderful to see our students learning, collaborating, and building their futures one experience and one brick at a time! 🧱💙

🩺 ECS STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: TAYLOR MEADE

Our students did some pretty amazing things this summer!

Taylor Meade, a 17-year-old senior at ECS and Scott County High School, was invited to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Medicine & Health Care, completing a seven-day program at Yale University this summer!

During the program, Taylor gained hands-on experience with skills including suturing, taking vital signs, conducting neurological exams, disaster triage, and more. She also had the opportunity to explore Yale’s campus and experience what it’s like to live and learn as a college student.

Taylor’s experience even included a visit to a medical school in New York, giving her another opportunity to explore her interest in medicine and her possibilities for the future. As an added accomplishment, she earned two college credits through George Mason University for completing the program!

We are so proud to see Taylor seeking out experiences that allow her to learn beyond the classroom, challenge herself, and take meaningful steps toward her future. Way to go, Taylor! Keep building your future brick by brick!
