Happy Paraprofessionals Day! At Williamsburg, we are SO grateful for our reading team (otherwise known as the DREAM TEAM!). We extend our deepest gratitude to them for all they do to help grow our readers’ love of reading. These women help students spark joy between the pages of the books! Our kids don’t just learn how to read well, they develop their love of learning with these positive reading mentors. We are SO lucky to have them!

4B students learned how to amplify their voices using persuasion during their recent writing unit. Then, they had some fun putting their skills to use in a class debate. They presented strong reasons to support their arguments about why people should or should not eat candy!

Our students listened to a wonderful story, The Last Stop on Market Street, and we learned from the main characters, CJ and Nana, how important it is to have an attitude of gratitude! Some of the most important lessons can be learned from books!

2nd grade writers joined writing seminar groups today. They explored mentor texts to gather up ideas💡 about: 1. How to end stories and, 2. How to tell stories in order using transition words. 📝

Today, kindergartners listened to and discussed, Two Homes, by Claire Masurel. This book served as a mirror for some of the kids (reflecting back what they see in their own life) and was a window for others (providing a chance for them to learn about others’ experiences). The kids explored some big thinking, too. They learned that sometimes kids have two homes but each one is filled with love. 💙

Let’s ‘taco’ about books! Our book recommendations for the day are Dragons Love Tacos & Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel by Adam Rubin. Happy Halloween from the Reading Team! 🎃🌮📚🎃

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are enjoying the graphic novel, Stuntboy, by Jason Reynolds. They spent some time thinking about characters last week as the protagonist’s superpower was revealed. Then, they imagined what superpower THEY would have if they were a superhero.
