Why learn to play fiddle? Because it’s the greatest thing in the world to do! I should know – I’ve been playing fiddle now for 36 years, as a solo performing musician, as a band member and as a fiddle teacher. My job as fiddle teacher is to share my joy and enthusiasm with you and to show you how to “get there” yourself. It’s a great door-opener to be a fiddler. You meet all sorts of interesting p

eople at workshops, festivals, jam sessions, and classes. Musicians at all levels are ready to share their tips and welcome you into the circle. You don’t need to be afraid of a violin. Many people fear that this wonderful means of expression is simply beyond them. And (I hate to say it) many have been put off in their youth by family or teachers that told them they had no musical ability. Would any teacher today have the gall to tell their students that they were incapable of learning English or math? Yet, as far as music is concerned, this unfortunately has been common. Your talent is there. There’s an old Irish expression, “Every tinker has his own way of dancing.” You have your own unique strengths and learning models that work best for you. My job is to find this out about you and to build from there while strengthening areas where you are more challenged. The group dynamic of the Beginning Fiddle class works well to enhance ear training and build synergy among the musicians, but I also work one-on-one with each student in the class.
