“Human relationships should be at the center of education.” This is how we feel at Moodie’s and why we are a low tech school. You will never walk into a classroom and see students in front of a Chromebook.

“Mastering writing skills offline will increase brain connectivity and help internalize language, reading, and the structure of written communication. This, in turn, can help preserve fluency and comprehension so that when students later use AI tools, they do so as editors and authors, not passive prompt recipients. Engaging learners in the offline world will be the key to preserving curiosity and internal motivation”

If we want children prepared for an AI-enhanced world, education’s most urgent task is not to accelerate cognition or outsource thinking, but to anchor children in deep thinking, real relationships, and lived experience.

Our field trip to Fort Ticonderoga gave students a hands-on history experience! Our guides led our students on a fascinating tour of the artifacts and history of Fort Ticonderoga. We had the opportunity to view a musket demonstration as well as discover what the daily activities of soldiers and their families were like.

We consider outdoor education to be one of the most important and impactful elements of Moodie's School. We even have an outdoor classroom so inclement weather never stops us from taking our lessons outside.

“A wealth of studies have shown that spending time in natural spaces has many health and psychological benefits for children, such as reduced obesity,improved mental wellbeing, increased resilience and faster cognitive development. It can also encourage the development of environmentally conscious behaviour by fostering an appreciation and respect for the natural world.”

Feeling like Fall at Moodie’s:
Students are enjoying the beautiful weather every day! Sometimes we eat lunch outside at the Welcome Center and dip our feet in the lake. We love spending time with the chickens; students pick apples from the fruit trees to feed to them as a treat. Climbing trees, playing gaga ball, exploring ponds, kayaking, going for walks and eating ice cream are always some of our favorite things to do in late September.

January 22nd The Wall Street Journal article asks: "Does it spark curiosity? Or is it just presenting information?” Culatta said. “That distinction right there makes it clear pretty quickly whether the tech use is valuable.”

At Moodie’s, our school does not rely on technology. Our definition of an individualized education looks different than most schools. In our lower elementary, classrooms are completely tech-free and focus on project-based, hands-on, experiential learning. Our campus is always phone-free! Our philosophy of education is built on relationships - between teachers, students, administrators and our community. The impact is life-changing for students and families. Childhood and education should be filled with imagination and wonder.

Educators question whether the rapid shift toward more technology has benefited learning. “I really lose my focus.”

Our school does not receive any state funding; fundraising is a necessary part of our school's success! Our fall fundraiser will hopefully cover a large portion of tuition assistance. Moodie's has always valued the ability to provide an education to families regardless of economic ability.
