FFA is an INTRAcurricular component of the Total Ag Ed Program which makes being in an Ag Class a requirement to be in FFA.

Our classroom will see all the freshmen throughout the year, about 40 students, in Introduction to Ag.

This year, there are about 45 students in grades 10-12 enrolled in 1 or 2 of the other 6 classes.

We began this year with our kick off meeting with 45 returning, new, and potentially new members.

To join, students pick up a medical form and code of conduct agreement from Mr VanDeWalle, complete it and have it signed at home, and return it to Mr. VanDeWalle along with your dues, by Sept 3.

Dues are $20 for first time members. Returning members who participated in the labor auction have their dues covered by those proceeds.

International Ag Tours for high school students, offered primarily to students in the Geneva area.

Sheep showmanship starts out the round robin showmanship competition. These 8 showmanship winners will also show goats, hogs, and cattle, competing to see who is the best showmen.

Qualifying from our chapter were:

Regean - FFA goats
Austyn - 4-H goats
Cullan - FFA swine
Marek - 4-H swine
Ellie - FFA beef

It was a warm day for the beef show with 7 of our members exhibiting their breeding and market cattle.

Our last event that is open to the public is the Round Robin Showmanship competition on Monday at 8:00 AM. The champion show-er in FFA and 4-H in the 4 species all show all 4 species.

T H A N K Y O U ! ! ! To our booster club, parents, members, and everyone for supporting our chapter with the Pork Chop Supper at the fair.

When you support our booster club, you support each of our members. One example is our chapter t-shirts. Each of our members receive their shirt for free when they join in the fall.

Our FFA Sheep Show kicks off today’s Livestock Shows at Fillmore County Fair, which includes our graduated members, Blake and Ellie.

FFA membership can continue after graduation until their 4th National FFA Convention after graduation. This allows members to further expand their Supervised Ag Experience for exhibitions and to receive their American Degree.

Anyone interested in getting involved with showing livestock at the fair should contact Mr. VanDeWalle. If you don’t have the facilities or space at home, there are options to work with those who do.
