🐺💚 GENESEE SCHOOL DISTRICT – FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS 💚🐺

The holiday season can bring extra challenges for families, and the Genesee School District is here to help! We are offering assistance to eligible district families through our Meal Assistance, Gift Assistance, and Backpack Programs.

🎄 Programs Available: 🍽️ Meal Assistance: Help with nutritious meals for your family. 🎁 Gift Assistance: Support with holiday gifts for eligible students. 🎒 Backpack Program: Additional food sent home with students regularly.

📅 Important Deadline: October 30, 2026

Applications can be picked up in either the Elementary or High School office. Please return completed applications to the office by the deadline. Unfortunately, late applications cannot be accepted.

Once applications have been reviewed, families will receive a letter explaining acceptance and which programs they qualify for.

📌 Please Note: Assistance is available only to current Genesee School District families. Gift assistance is specifically for students currently enrolled in the district.

🎃👻 Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon, Genesee Wolves! 🐺🧡🖤

Our Jr. High Halloween Dance is coming up on Friday, October 30th, from 3:00–6:00 PM in the Jr. High Gym! Students can look forward to costumes, dancing, music, and more! 🎶🕸️

🎟️ Tickets: $5, sold in the High School Office the week before the dance. Dance eligibility requirements apply.

👀 Reminder for all students: Be sure to check your dance eligibility! According to the Student Code of Conduct, students must meet the following requirements:

📚 Academics: Passing at least 5 of 6 classes
📋 Discipline: No more than one suspension this school year
⏰ Attendance: Fewer than 6 tardies and 5 absences for the semester

Students and parents can review grades and attendance through StudentVUE and ParentVUE. For additional details, please see pages 37–38 of the Student Code of Conduct or contact the main office with questions.

📢 Important Update for Students Under 18 Seeking Employment!

Beginning October 2, 2026, Michigan is changing the process for obtaining student work permits. Work permits will now be issued online through Michigan’s Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP), administered by the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO). Schools will no longer issue work permits.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Visit the state’s YEPP page for instructions and resources.
✅ Access YEPP through MiLogin by creating or signing into your account.
✅ Complete the online permit process. Your employer must also register through YEPP.

📌 Already have a school-issued work permit? Valid school-issued permits will still be honored. A new YEPP permit is required when changing employers or worksites.

💚🤍 HOMECOMING IS ALMOST HERE! 🤍💚

We’re looking forward to a fun night together at the Genesee Homecoming Dance! 🎉 Before Saturday, please take a minute to review the dance eligibility requirements so there are no surprises.

🎓 Academic: Passing at least 5 of your 6 classes
✅ Behavior: No more than one suspension*
⏰ Attendance: Fewer than 6 tardies AND fewer than 5 total absences

🎟️ PURCHASING TICKETS IN ADVANCE?
Any student who purchases a ticket in advance and does not meet the eligibility requirements will be notified by Friday afternoon.

🎟️ PLANNING TO BUY YOUR TICKET AT THE DOOR?
Students purchasing tickets at the door on Saturday will need to check in with Administration before being permitted to purchase a ticket. Students who are determined to be ineligible will be directed to leave.

*Administrative discretion may be used regarding the severity of a suspension.
Students have the right to appeal an eligibility decision with Administration.

One of our favorite Homecoming traditions is bringing our students, families, alumni, and community together for the Homecoming Parade! The parade will begin at 5:30 PM on Friday, October 2.

The parade route is included with this message so families and community members can find a great place along the route to cheer on our students, teams, organizations, and Homecoming Court.

Following the parade, we invite everyone to head to the football field as the Genesee Wolves take the field at 7:00 PM for our Homecoming game!

We are looking forward to an outstanding week celebrating what makes Genesee special — our students, our school, and our community.
