Candace's Child Care

Candace's Child Care Licensed in-home child care De-Lane of Delights Early Learning, is our new name. We are now located south of Ga***rd in Sibley County.

On our small hobby farm we allow the children to engage in gardening, sewing, cooking, and other basic preschool activities and self-help skills, with little to no screen time. Helping the children to know, love, respect, and feel safe with our Savior, Jesus, is one of our main goals.

Happy news: One of our daycare parents posted on our county daycare opening sites that our daycare was great because of this and that. Two more of our current families commented and agreed. Now we have three new families starting.. one not until December, but it helped tremendously. If you like your child care providers, be sure to say so, whether in person or on a social media site, IF your provider is okay with it. It is such a great feeling to hear, see, and know that you are indeed doing the good things you set out to do. Thank you to all of you who have commented over time. It is so helpful and so appreciated.

Do you know anyone who needs childcare around the area of Ga***rd, Mn? Perhaps they travel through or near the area on the way to and from work or school. Or maybe they live elsewhere but work close to Ga***rd. Please let them know we have lots of openings. One of our families will be moving to a new school district in the next two weeks. We would like to fill those 2 spots, as well as two more preschool spots and a toddler spot. We will accept part time, full time, and child care assistance. If your child needs bussing in this school district, the bus does stop at our place. Today we peeled apples to make apple pies to send home for Thanksgiving. We put all the peelings in some bushes outside for the birds and other critters to eat.
We are currently learning about good manners and healthy foods and practicing self-regulation. The children are excited to make warm slippers to wear indoors during these colder months. They could bring them from home, but making them is half the fun. We would love for more families to join us at De-Lane of Delights Early Learning. Please message me for information and questions. My daughter and I work together. Between us we have over 40 years of child care experiences, including nannying, teaching special education, teaching and assisting in various preschools, owning and operating family child care, and teaching in childcare centers.

Part of a shed on my childhood home is being remodeled into a new childcare. My daughter and I hope to be licensed and opened in the next few months. It has been a long and involved process but it is coming along very well. So exciting!

Update: June 5, 2019 This Program has been cancelled due to low enrollment. We will try something similar next summer.

Summer Program for Kids Grades K-4
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church
800 N. Bluff St. North
Hutchinson, MN 55350

Our Savior’s is sponsoring a program designed for children who have completed kindergarten through fourth grade to train their brains to give them ideas of things to do instead of all the electronic noise and screen flashes. As alternatives to screen time, this program offers opportunities for children to learn and practice skills of cooking, crafts, drawing, games, gardening, sewing, and writing, while learning of the love Jesus has for them. During the 3 months together, each child will learn about his or her miraculous God-given brain, how it develops and works and how to use and strengthen self-control, manners, empathy and other such actions. At the end of the program, the children will show invited guests what they have learned, made and experienced through a carnival event fund raiser for a mission of the children’s choice!
We will learn a few simple cooking skills, lean to sew on a button or craft a shopping bag or make sun hat. Using books in the library, we will research games kids played before computers and televisions were invented. Learning how our brains develop and what our brains can do, will help us learn ways which are good and not so good for our brains. God made His world for us. We learn what the Bible says about how we are to care for the world. All was good at creation time, then one mistake by man ruined it. Though we disobeyed, God still loves us. He sent His only Son, Jesus, to take on our sins & give us life!

This program is not licensed by DHS and is not operated by Our Savior’s Early Learning Childcare. It is sponsored by Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. It will be led by Candace Metzger, who is trained and experienced working with children of all ages. It will be open for 6-14 children. If fewer than 6 children are enrolled, the program will be cancelled.

For more information, and to register, message Candace.

When I asked each child to look around the room to find the first letter in their names, I expected them to find a book or a poster with letters in or on it, but I didn't suggest anything. Here are some of the pictures of what they found. Be sure to read the captions under the pictures.

Today before nap time, we read a book about turtles. Other animals had a part in the story as well. At the end of the book the author wrote a tiny bit about each creature. Before I read one to the children I asked them what they knew about butterflies. One said, "They fly." Another said when they are caterpillars "they make a raccoon and when they come out they're a butterfly!" He later changed his mistaken word to "cocoon."

One child wanted to color unicorns but she couldn't decide which picture she wanted to have printed from my "peuter." So we made up a craft. We call them spoon-icorns. We wanted wiggly eyes but craft foam worked better. The paper punch didn't work to make round eyes. These spoon-icorns have square eyes. Each has a white pipe cleaner piece for a horn and yarn scraps for a mane. We used toothpicks to get just the right amount of liquid glue in just the right spots. The hardest part was waiting for Candace to cut the nose and eye shapes. Waiting is hard sometimes. That is what happens when it is a spur of the moment craft.

Near the end of the day a one year old was snapping a rubber band on a box. Everyone, of course, wanted a turn. Tah dah! Guitars!
