Just wanted to share an experience I had this
morning that hit me hard as a father of two and a retired federal law enforcement officer. I learned about the tragic lowa school shooting this morning on the news, and at about the time that was happening, I found myself witnessing a lockdown situation at a building I
was arriving at. In my situation, the police
were already on scene and had it
handled - there were no injuries and a tragedy was averted.
Sadly, the same cannot be said for the active shooter event in
lowa.

These events are a stark reminder of the reality we live in.
While Active Shooter Response training is no one's favorite topic, it is necessary. At Spear Strategic, LLC we believe the more
people we train, the less future victims there
will be. Planning and education to prepare for these situations empowers people and provides a sense of calm to enable people to effectively react when stress levels are high.

Please be sure your business, church, school, library or other government building has a plan to address the time gap (statistically 6-9 minutes) between when a situation begins and police arrive. A lot can happen in 6-9 minutes; it's up to you to account for your readiness during that time. It would be my pleasure to partner with you and support training and the creation of an effective, strategic plan of action.

Active Shooter Response Training……what is it? The class we provide typically lasts 2 hours, is held in a classroom, and requires no special coordination or set up. The training is a data driven approach teaching you how to respond to an active shooter in a school, government building, church, business or other gathering place. The training empowers individuals to take their safety into their own hands, and helps identify pre-planning steps that can be taken to deter, prevent, and survive an active shooter incident.

By design, the training is meant to be simple and effective and can be implemented the moment you leave the classroom.

At Spear Strategic, all of our instructors are retired or current Law Enforcement Officers. We have a strong sense of duty and will work within most budgets to provide high quality training to the places in our communities that need it most.

This can be a scary or uncomfortable subject, and it leaves us as the instructors striving to present the information in a way it can be seen as empowering and positive. We view it as if we were thinking about driving a car. You would take a basic driver’s safety course, wear a seat belt, and then drive without much thought or fear about an accident.

Active Shooter Response is a similar theory: get informed, have a plan, and be aware.

Spear Strategic is proud to offer Active Shooter Response Training. At Spear Strategic, we have a simple thought process…Be informed, be prepared. We liken preparedness to that which you might do when planning for a hike in Yellowstone National Park in that you would most likely take some time to inform yourself about how to safely hike in Grizzly Bear territory. You would not be afraid to go hiking, or worry every step of the hike, rather you would probably carry bear spray, make noise as you hiked, or clip a bell to you to ensure you did not surprise a bear.

We at Spear Strategic view Active Shooter Response training in a similar light. Don’t go about your day worried about if it could happen, but rather have a simple, solid plan in the event you find yourself in an active shooter situation.

Just like having a run in with a bear while hiking is statistically low, so is finding yourself in an active shooter situation. Unfortunately Active Shooter incidents don’t seem to be going away any time soon and have happened in small towns and big cities alike.

We offer training ranging from 1 hour modules to a full day. Our goal is to provide a basic level training that can be utilized and implemented the same day. The training takes place in a classroom setting and utilizes real world data and after action reviews.

Our Active Shooter Response training can be used as an add-on to your existing plan, a refresher course, or a great introductory course for those who are just starting to form a response plan. We also offer Emergency First Aid Fundamentals, which is a great add-on to this course.

We had another successful class on the 22nd. Great people and great weather! We have had several calls and emails asking when the next class will be. If anyone has a group of 3 or more just contact Spear Strategic llc. and we can either make a private class for you, or put you in a class with another small group.
