So proud of our very own Katie Carter 🫶

From sleeping in her car to receiving one of the most prestigious scholarships in the nation.

This is what God can do through compassion, community, and opportunity.

When a faculty member at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College recognized both Katie’s potential and the challenges she was facing, they connected her with Community Care Network.

At the time, Katie was trying to pursue an education while experiencing homelessness and struggling to rebuild her life. Through our partnership with MGCCC, CCN was able to help her secure safe housing near campus, furnish her apartment, and provide the support and stability she needed to focus on school and her future.

And Katie took that opportunity and ran with it.

Last month, she graduated from MGCCC. Now, she has been named a 2026 recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship - one of the most competitive and generous scholarships in the country. The scholarship provides up to $55,000 per year for students to complete their bachelor’s degree. Out of more than 1,300 applicants nationwide, only 60 students were selected, and Katie was one of just two students in Mississippi to receive this honor.

She is now preparing to continue her education in social work with the goal of helping children who have experienced trauma themselves.

Stories like Katie’s are a reminder that sometimes changing a life starts with something as simple as someone noticing, someone caring, and a community willing to step in with support at the right moment.

We are incredibly proud of Katie and deeply grateful for our partnership with MGCCC and the faculty and staff who work every day to support students beyond the classroom.

That’s some serious PTK graduation swag! 🎓🏅

It was an unforgettable evening inducting future scholars into our PTK Pi Epsilon Chapter. We had an unbelievable turnout for this induction ceremony, and we thank all friends and family for their support of these amazing students.

Also, special thanks to our keynote speaker and alumni hall of fame recipient, Dr. Kollin Napier, for his encouraging words of advice and for sharing his experience on PTK membership.

And another special thanks to our college administration. This event would not be possible without their continued support and collaboration. We appreciate them for all that they do!
