Teaching Trick!!
Combine ELA, reading, study skills, test prep and science (or social studies -- anything!) into ONE lesson!!! Saves time in your day, lowers stress & anxiety, and integrates the more mundane skills into a content area the student enjoys!

In this activity, I quickly assessed how familiar the student is with the parts of a book. I introduced parts students will need to know when it's time to document sources for research papers. I quickly checked text scanning skills, and more! In addition, these are study skills and also skills necessary for taking standardized tests and college entrance exams. We'll be regularly revisiting these skills throughout the school year ;)

If you're like me, you hold back beginning a new venture because you want to have done as much research as possible, have all the what-if scenarios accounted for, have back-up plans in place, etc. But what if I told you that all you need to do is make that first step forward, stepping into carrying out your heart's true desire??? One step. That's it! The next step will soon become clear! And then the 3rd step will materialize as we abandon fear and embrace opportunity! Fear restricts our creative flow; embracing our heart's desires opens the floodgates of creative possibilities to get us where we want to be! What's something tucked inside your heart that you long to have unfold in your life?

Day 2 of our Homeschool! We're exploring space! Join us Thursdays for our Science Club!!
This particular activity incorporates kinesthetic and visual learning styles, while practicing spatial skills, matching parts of pictures, and being a fun warm-up activity through which a student subconsciously learns information ;)
You're able to quickly assess how much a student already knows about the topic, a few misconceptions to be sure to include in upcoming lessons, attention span, motor skills, and more, with this one activity!

I'd like to offer a ladies' journaling & personal growth reflection time, open to teens and adults. The focus would be who we are in Christ. Who He made us. Our gifts. Our talents. Shifting our beliefs to what we think and believe about our heavenly Father, to truly believing what Scripture says about Him regarding ourselves. Shifting our focus from our earthly circumstances, to focusing on God while in our circumstances. Uncovering our unique qualities, that we may very well see as flaws about ourselves, and seeing them, instead, through God's eyes: unique qualities He gave us for a divine purpose! I believe these are qualities our young people need today more than ever -- and especially our young ladies. Bullying, cyber bullying, fashion, the world of phones, television -- focus on performance in school and college -- we're surrounded by society-created ideals, schedules, pressures, standards: God didn't design us for that. He designed us to shine as the unique, beautiful, talented creations that we are! I have a few guided journals in mind for women, both secular and religious, that could serve as beautiful writing and discussion prompts.

💯Math: Beginning Fractions!
Using hands-on activities and everyday situations, students will learn the following:
🔸whole vs. part
🔸parts vs. equal parts
🔸whole number & fraction
🔸numerator, denominator, fraction bar
🔸dividing something into equal parts
🔸adding fractions
🔸subtracting fractions
🔸mixed number (a whole and a fraction)
🔸Equivalent fractions
🔸Fractions in our everyday lives (measuring, money, time, etc.)
📣Note: this class will work with common denominators. We will only explore carrying and borrowing, and finding a common denominator, if it comes up, per student interest and understanding. These skills will be presented in a following session, Intermediate Fractions.

Using hands-on activities and a variety of literary and audio-visual resources, students will learn the following:
🔸our unique planet Earth
🔸planets in the solar system
🔸types of stars
🔸Earth's moon
🔸rotation of a planet
🔸revolution of a planet around a star
🔸our star the sun
🔸solar and lunar eclipses
🔸asteroids, nebulae, anything else that students are curious about!

📣Note: I strongly recommend Apologia's elementary science series for a unit study approach to learning! I will NOT be using a particular textbook or resource for this particular unit study. I DO teach from a creationist perspective that God created the universe in six literal days without using evolutionary processes. You WILL probably want access to the public library for students to work on their project.
