Sadler Elementary School Since 2004, Dr. Edward D. Sadler, Jr. Elementary School has served students in grades K - 5. Opened in 2004, Sadler Elementary School is named after Dr. Edward D.

A veteran educator of 38 years, Dr. Sadler served Gaston County Schools as a teacher, principal, and the county's first and only African American superintendent before retiring in 2006. • When students are waiting for their buses at the bus stop, it’s to remind them that they must wait for the bus stop sign and stop arm to be extended before crossing the street and boarding their buses.

• Our bus pickup and delivery are beginning to stabilize. The pickup and delivery times this week for buses 143 and 502 should remain the same going forward. Buses 89, 523, and 534 pickup and delivery times will change the week of August 31st due to having PreK student riders. PreK riders are required to have an adult place students on our buses during pickup and remove them from buses during delivery. This process will add time to each of these bus routes.

• Third-grade students will take their Beginning-of-Grade Reading assessment on Wednesday.

• If parents of eligible fourth and fifth students wish for their children to run for one of our ten student council seats, please have your children sign up on the participation form in their homeroom classes on Wednesday. Student campaigns will occur during the week of August 31st.

• We’re concerned about some car-riding students arriving at 7:30 and later. Please plan your morning transportation routes early so that students arrive at school and are in their classes before the 7:30 am tardy bell. If your child arrives at 7:30 or later, the parent or guardian who transported them to school must park and enter the building to sign the student in.

• Families will receive Sadler’s September Events Calendars on Thursday.

• We’re concerned about our student attendance last week. Our overall student attendance rate was below 90%, but our goal remains 95% or higher. When grade levels achieve at least a 95% attendance rate, they will earn a “Hat Day” on the following Friday, wearing their favorite hats to school all day. Only our PreK students earned a Hat Day for this coming Friday.

Good Evening, Sadler Families,

I hope this message finds you well and that you had a great weekend. Here are this week's announcements:

• Kindergarten students will begin riding our buses tomorrow morning. Please ensure your children are ready to board buses 89, 502, 523, and 534 by 6 am. Students boarding the bus at the Nu-Spring Valley apartments should be prepared by 6:30 am. Please note these are estimated times, as we are adding students to our buses daily, and pickup and drop-off times will not stabilize until September, after PreK students begin riding on August 31. We also ask for all parents to be prepared to receive students between 2:35 and 2:40 pm daily. We ask for your patience during this time period.
• Parents of kindergarten students must be present at the bus stops each afternoon. If a parent, guardian, or designated adult is not present, bus drivers will transport students back to school for pickup by their parents.
• Please note that buses will make one stop at designated bus stops. If your children are not present at the time of the stop, you will be required to transport them to school on that day. Please do not attempt to take your children to another bus stop.
• If your child's school registration remains incomplete, they may not attend school or ride a bus until the process is complete.
• Gaston County Schools' iReady and mClass assessments will begin this week.
• Sadler's August Birthday Celebration Day will occur on Thursday. Sadler celebrates students' birthdays on the third Thursday of each month unless stated otherwise. If parents wish to send food items to their children's classrooms, items must be sealed and purchased from a store. If students in your children's classrooms have food allergies, you must ensure none of the foods you send contains any of the listed allergens. Letters will be shared this week with classrooms of students with food allergies.
• Sadler will have a Student Council this school year composed of 4th- and 5th-grade students. There will be 10 members on this year's council, and any 4th- or 5th-grade student may campaign for a position on the council, given the following qualifications are met beginning on August 31:
o Students must not have any disciplinary infractions (in other words, in-school suspensions, out-of-school suspensions, bus suspensions, or repeated classroom violations)
o Students' academic performance must remain in good standing
o All Sadler students will participate in the election process, and the top two Vote earners will serve as President and Vice President. Our student council will help to plan school events for the school year beginning in October.
• Please remember that all early student checkouts must occur before 1 pm. Also, we must have parent notes, emails, or Class Dojo messages to change your child's mode of transportation for the trip home. We cannot accept phone calls to make such changes.
• We also ask that car riders' parents remain in their cars each afternoon at dismissal to help ensure a smooth transition for all students, rather than coming into the office to sign students out.

Good Evening, Sadler Families,

I hope your day went well. Here are a few evening announcements and reminders for tomorrow:

• Kindergarten students' last staggered entry day will occur tomorrow. Please remember that kindergarten students will not ride buses, but will be transported to and from school by their parents.
• Bus-riding students will need to be ready at bus stops as early as 6 am.
• Buses will make one stop at designated bus stops. If your child misses his/her stop, you must transport your child to school, as buses will not make a second stop.
• If your children will be car riders and you have not picked up car tags, please do so tomorrow morning, or you will have to park your cars at the end of the school day, enter the building, and sign out your children with a valid ID.

• Los autobuses harán una sola parada en las paradas designadas. Si su hijo/a se pasa de su parada, deberá llevarlo/a en coche hasta el colegio, ya que los autobuses no harán una segunda parada.
• Si sus hijos van a ser llevados en coche y usted no ha recogido las etiquetas para los vehículos, hágalo mañana por la mañana o tendrá que aparcar sus coches al final de la jornada escolar, entrar en el edificio y registrar la salida de sus hijos con un documento de identidad válido.
