Steel City Family, we are so grateful that many across Gary continue to have power restored. At the same time, we know that recovery from last week’s storms will be long, and it will require all of us continuing to be in community, looking out for one another, and connecting families to the support they need.

⚙️ Check out these community resources available to support our families. Please share them with neighbors, family members, and anyone who may benefit.

💙 Steel City Families: Thank you to everyone who continues to complete our Family Support Survey. Our team will be reaching out tonight and tomorrow to families who have submitted new or updated surveys. We will also be sharing information about additional resource opportunities available tomorrow at Steel City as we continue helping families with recovery needs and preparing to welcome our students back. 🔥

The power coming back on is an important step, but recovery does not end when the lights come back on. We are still here. We are still checking in. We are still supporting one another. 💙

Steel City Family, although power has been restored at Steel City, we know many of our families, staff members, and neighbors throughout Gary are still without power. 💙 And even for those whose lights are back on, we know recovery from this storm will be long. Food has been lost, homes need to be cleaned, supplies need to be replaced, and families are still getting back on their feet.

We will continue to be here. 💙

There are several FREE community resources happening across Gary this weekend. Please take advantage of anything your family needs and share with others!

Today was another powerful reminder of what it means to be part of the Steel City community.

A HUGE thank you to Principal Pratt, Coach Kelly, Mr. Moore, Mama Moore, Ms. Renee, Mr. Stevens, and Ms. Kirley for spending today reaching out to every family who completed our Steel City Family Support Survey. Because of their incredible teamwork, 100% of the families who shared a need with us were contacted and able to receive supplies through delivery and/or pickup based on their individual needs. 🔥⚙️

And none of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our donors, partners, friends, and Steel City supporters. Every case of water, bag of groceries, cleaning product, toiletry item, monetary donation, and other resource has gone directly toward helping our families navigate these truly unprecedented days. We are so incredibly grateful. 💙

This weekend, our team will be taking inventory of our remaining supplies and placing another order to replenish what our families need most, including food, water, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and household essentials. We will also be stocking up on school supplies as we prepare to welcome our kids back to Steel City next week! 🔥

💙⚙️ GREAT NEWS, STEEL CITY! POWER HAS BEEN RESTORED! ⚙️💙

After nearly two incredibly difficult weeks for our school, our families, and the Gary community, we are so grateful to share that power has officially been restored at Steel City Academy! 🔥

Our team is now working hard to get everything ready to welcome our students home.

🧹 Our cleaning crew will be in the building tonight and again Monday.

🍎 A fresh food delivery is arriving Monday.

💙 All Steel City staff will return Monday to clean, prepare classrooms and learning spaces, and finalize plans for our students' return.

🚌 Over the weekend, our transportation team will check our bus routes to ensure they can be safely traveled for student pickup and drop-off.

🎉 And most importantly, we are planning to WELCOME ALL K-12 STUDENTS BACK TO SCHOOL ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 25!

We know recovery is not over. Some Steel City families remain without power or are continuing to navigate storm damage, food loss, cleanup, and other challenges.

We are continuing to collect and distribute resources to our families. Please continue to complete our Family Support Survey with updates on your family's needs and ways we can support you or connect you with additional resources. You can submit another response even if you have already completed the survey.

Thank you to everyone who has loved on, supported, donated to, prayed for, and shown up for our Steel City family during these incredibly challenging days.

We have missed our kids SO MUCH, and we cannot wait to have our entire K-12 family back together again! 💙⚙️🔥

🫁 MEDICAL OXYGEN SUPPORT
The City of Gary’s on-site oxygen refill service concludes today, Friday, August 21 at 6:00 PM. After 6:00 PM, families with an urgent oxygen refill need can:

Triumphant Transitions is providing FREE laundry services beginning at 11:00 AM while supplies last at:

Free essential-needs items will also be available while supplies last. First come, first served.

🧺 FREE LAUNDRY THIS WEEKEND, 8/22 & 8/23
Reign Outreach is providing free laundry support for families impacted by the tornadoes and power outages on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with priority for families with children and seniors.

Services include washing and drying up to three loads. Text “Reign on me” to 312-818-9616 to schedule a laundry pickup.

Happy Friday, Steel City Families! It is so wonderful to hear that many of our families are finally getting their power restored. For those who are still waiting, we continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Steel City is here to support you. 💙

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our partners and supporters, we have supplies available for our families TODAY at Steel City! Stop by anytime between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM and make a box to go! We also have our first deliveries going out right now.

Thank you to everyone who has completed our Steel City Storm Recovery & Family Needs Survey. We have reached out to 100% of families who have responded and will continue following up as new responses come in. Please continue to fill out the survey so we can reach out! Steel City families, we are so incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from our partners, donors, and community members who continue to step up for our families.

Because of their generosity, multiple deliveries of supplies and resources are arriving at Steel City tomorrow! Staff will be at Steel City coordinating pick-ups and heading out into the community to make deliveries directly to families. 💙

Steel City families, we are grateful to share another resource available to our Gary community as families continue recovering from the recent storms and power outages. ❤️

First Baptist Church of Gary, in partnership with World Vision and Ricci’s Landscape Management, Inc., will be providing FREE disaster relief supplies and essential items to individuals and families in need.

Trae Tha Truth & Relief Gang, in partnership with Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church, are bringing an entire 18-wheeler full of supplies to Gary for a FREE community relief distribution.
