💙🎶 SMALL SCHOOL, BIG OPPORTUNITIES! 🎶🔥

At Steel City Academy, one of our BIG goals this year is to expand access to courses, experiences, and opportunities that help our students discover new passions, develop new skills, and explore the world around them! 🌎✨ And this year, our littlest Flames are making some BIG noise! 🎵

Our kindergarten scholars have been learning from our very own music LEGEND, Ms. G! 💙 From exploring classical string instruments and learning musical scales (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do 🎶) to singing Do-Re-Mi and The Kindergarten Song, our scholars are finding their rhythm!

They've even been learning to play Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star on the xylophone, with marching bands and tambourines adding even MORE musical fun! 🥁🎼 A HUGE shoutout to Ms. G for bringing the JOY of music to our youngest learners! 💙🔥

Small School. BIG Opportunities. Endless Possibilities.

At Steel City, we are committed to expanding STEM access, creating meaningful opportunities, and improving math and science outcomes for ALL scholars. And we know that work starts with US getting better every single day! 💙🚀🔬🔥

After an extensive application process, we are THRILLED to announce that Steel City Academy has been selected for the Science Leadership Initiative (SLI) through the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry! 🎉

This incredible three-year partnership is designed to strengthen science instruction, develop instructional leaders, and build sustainable, high-quality STEM programs!

💙 Our cross-collaborative leadership triad, led by Mrs. Combs alongside Mrs. Cavanaugh and Mrs. Ward, spent last week engaged in professional development focused on coaching teachers, strengthening science instruction, and building critical thinkers!

🔬 What does this mean for our students? Our first year focuses on evaluating our current science programming, identifying opportunities for growth, and developing a strategic action plan. The following two years focus on implementation, coaching, and continuous improvement, with ongoing support and resources from Griffin MSI!

👏 A HUGE shoutout to Mrs. Combs, Mrs. Cavanaugh, and Mrs. Ward for leading this important work!

When our educators grow, our scholars grow! 💙🔥

CHAMPIONS ARE MADE IN THE OFFSEASON! 🏈💪

This morning, our remarkable Girls Flag Football coaches, Coach Kelly and Coach Douglas, took our Steel City athletes to the 2026 Got Her Back Football Camp, presented by Dove, in partnership with the The Chicago Winds Women's Professional Football Team!

Our girls spent the morning sharpening their skills, competing, building community, and learning from professional athletes! They showed up ready to WORK, GROW, and GET BETTER! 💙🏈

And the excitement didn't stop there! Two of our seniors, Alyssa and Alicia, were even invited to try out for the professional team! 👏🔥

THIS is what happens when we create access and open doors for our students! Opportunities like these allow our young women to see what's possible, dream bigger, and recognize that their potential extends far beyond the field.

We are SO proud of our girls for their commitment to getting better and incredibly grateful to Coach Kelly and Coach Douglas for going above and beyond to create meaningful opportunities for our student-athletes!

The future is bright for our Lady Steel City athletes! 💙🏈

At Steel City, we believe college and career readiness is about more than getting accepted. It's about ensuring our students have the ACCESS, RESOURCES, and SUPPORT to turn their dreams into reality! 🚀💙🎓

Today, our College & Career Counseling Department, in partnership with INvestEd, hosted a FAFSA Completion & Financial Aid Workshop to help our students take another BIG step toward their futures! 🎉

During the workshop, students received hands-on support with:

💙 Creating their Federal Student Aid (FSA) IDs

🎓 Navigating and completing the FAFSA

💰 Understanding grants, scholarships, loans, and financial aid opportunities

📚 Exploring ways to make postsecondary education more affordable!

Whether our Flames dream of attending a four-year university, community college, vocational school, or pursuing a skilled trade, we are committed to making sure they have OPTIONS and the knowledge to pursue them!

A HUGE thank you to INvestEd and our College & Career Counseling team for helping our students turn BIG dreams into REAL opportunities! 💙
