We didn't let a power outage stop teaching and learning! We kept it moving right over here at the Gary Area Career Center! Oh and there were alot of smiles too!

Due to the loss of power at Gary Middle School, classes will continue to take place at the Gary Area Career Center, 1800 E. 35th Avenue for the remainder of this week. (Thursday and Friday)

It is the expectation for ALL GMS students to report to school.

Bus riders will be transported to and from the Career Center from their usual stops.

Car riders and walkers are to report to Gary Middle School by 8:00 a.m. to board the bus that will transport them to the Career Center. Staff members will be on-site to record names of students who ride the bus to ensure their safety and clear communication with parents.

Parents and guardians are also welcome to drop off and pick up their scholars directly to and from the Career Center.

At the conclusion of school, a bus will transport car riders and walkers back to Gary Middle School by 3:40 p.m.

We thank everyone for being flexible and understanding during this time of emergency. Please know that you are appreciated and that we always want the best for our scholars!

Good morning GMS families,

Currently the school is still without power. We recognize that buses are already en route. Students will be transport it to the Gary Area Career Center, 1800 E. 35th Ave. for instruction.

Should there be parents who choose not to bring your scholar to school, your child will not be penalized with an absence.

A bus will be sent to the school at 7:45 am to transport any walkers to the Career Center.

We truly apologize for this inconvenience.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE!

Good afternoon, Gary Community School Corporation Scholars, Families, Staff and Stakeholders,

We are pleased to announce that school will resume on Monday, August 24, 2026 operating on a two-hour delay FOR STUDENTS only. All staff are REQUIRED to report at their normally scheduled times.

Bethune Child Development Center is currently still without power. Bethune will remain closed.

All Gary Community School Corporation bus riders should report to their bus stops 2 hours later to be picked up and transported to their respective schools.

Should power be restored to Bethune after this message has been received, we will be sure to reach out to families with updated information.

Finally, we would like to sincerely thank everyone for your patience and support during this unforeseen natural disaster. We extend special recognition to those team members who worked throughout the storm assisting with securing, cleaning and protecting our buildings.

We can't wait to welcome our scholars back to school! Our collective resilience has brought us to this point, and we are indeed stronger together!
