Did you know that August 31st was International Overdose Awareness Day? This past Monday, many of our staff and program members participated in a night of remembrance put on by the Philipstown Hub in our community. Our kids helped set up the luminaria walk through and wrote messages to loved ones we honor and remember. Thank you Philipstown Hub for a beautiful evening!
May St. Anastasia intercede for us all, may we all pray for those who have been affected by addiction and overdose, and love to all families and friends living with grief.

Our annual Walk-A-Thon is back on October 17th, 2026! Make sure to mark your calendars and spread the news for this fun-filled event! All are welcome! The day will include the Blessing of the Waters on campus, a beautiful walk through the Saint Basil Academy grounds, lots of delicious foods, fun fall activities, yard games, a bounce house, our Basilia Boutique, music, dancing, and more! For the last couple of weeks, we had the honor of hosting an Iconography Retreat here at Saint Basil Academy! The retreat was held by instructor and iconographer Randi Maria Sider-Rose, founder of Immanuel Icons studio. 30 participants from all over the world participated in the intensive program, learning the traditional and prayerful process of written Byzantine icons, gaining knowledge on the history, techniques, and faith. The incredible retreat participants also held a workshop for our own Saint Basil Academy children, teaching them about the angels, and how to make egg tempera and pigments from crushed rocks and outdoor materials!

We had such a fulfilling and edifying experience at the 48th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress and National YAL Conference in Cleveland, OH this year. Saint Basil Academy was honored to hold a ministry booth at both national conferences where we showcased our programs, the work that we do, and connected with other ministries!
We also had some activities that taught different therapeutic techniques for clergy and lay people to take home to their own parishes as tools, a hero activity to inspire others to celebrate the heroes around them, and an interactive art project that inspired participants to give thanks for all that they are grateful for! It was beautiful to bridge the work that we do with our children and families with the larger Orthodox Community.

The playroom had so much fun hosting a restaurant day for the children! Our wonderful staff cooked an array of delicious meals for the kids to choose from. They practiced paying with fake “Saint Basil Bucks,” managing their funds to afford paying for a drink, dinner, and dessert!
