Seniors: There are a handful of local scholarship deadlines approaching mid-February with the first BIG deadline March 6th, followed by the second BIG deadline, March 20th. Please check Ms. McCullough’s Google classroom for applications. Turn all completed applications in to Ms. McCullough, unless otherwise noted.

Seniors...during this time off from school, begin looking at and completing the local scholarship applications you qualify for! (These are found in my Google Classroom.) If you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to put together a resume. This is super helpful when you ask someone to write you a letter of recommendation. Spending a little time over break getting organized can help eliminate unwarranted stress a few months from now!

Local scholarship applications are NOW AVAILABLE to seniors through Google Classroom. 🙌 There are two big deadline dates...the first is March 6th; the second is March 20th. However, there are a few applications that have their own deadline date.

I can't encourage seniors enough to START early. STAY organized. BE diligent. If you have questions, please ask.

For a limited time, ACT is offering students the opportunity to get a free ACT registration. Students must register and pay for the December 9 test date. Students then will receive a discount code to be used for a free registration. The code must be used by January 31, 2024 to register for February 10, April 13, June 8 or July 13.

The KLL Memorial Scholarship Foundation was established in loving memory of Kelly Lynn Lutz who lost a 9-year battle to breast cancer in May 2008. Kelly was a teacher so education was very important to her. Kelly’s family and friends generously contributed enough money to create a permanent endowment that will provide qualified recipients with a $2,500 annual scholarship at the secondary school of their choice, renewable for up to 4 years.

What makes this scholarship unique is that it is geared toward students who have lost a parent to cancer. The financial and emotional toll that cancer inflicts on these families can never be fully resolved but hopefully a scholarship such as this will give deserving students the opportunity and hope to keep chasing their dreams of a college degree. To date the KLL Memorial Foundation has awarded nearly $250,000 in scholarships to 48 students.

The application deadline is January 10, 2024. The recipient will be chosen in early March 2024.

The Schmidt Foundation Scholars scholarship is a $15,106 award made possible through the generous gifts of the Schmidt Foundation. This amount includes 30 hours of tuition and fees for fall and spring courses, books, and room and board. This scholarship aims to support FHSU students, with preference given to students from Kansas and first-generation college students. Recipients can renew their scholarship for up to three additional years if eligibility requirements continue to be met. Each year, five future FHSU students from the incoming freshman class will have the opportunity to receive this prestigious scholarship and join the respected community of Schmidt Foundation Scholars. Apply now! Application deadline is February 15th, 2024. Eligibility requirements include the following:
• Recipients must be full-time, on-campus, undergraduate students enrolled at Fort Hays State University.
• Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.25; Maintain a 2.50 GPA after the 1st semester for yearly renewal. Ongoing participation will require a 3.25 GPA.
• Recipients must live on-campus. Room and board with meal plan will be covered by the Schmidt Foundation Scholars Program.
• Recipient must be Kansas residents with preference to first-generation college students. (The term refers to students from families in which neither of their parents earned a two or four-year degree.)
• Preference to Kansas counties where Eagle Radio has locations (https://eagleradio.net//services/radio).
• Preference to Healthcare, Education, Business/Entrepreneurship, Arts, and Communication Programs
• Selected recipients are required to attend once a semester event (dinner) with Schmidt Foundation and FHSU leadership for opportunity to network.
• Submit an essay of 600 words or less which include background, financial need, evidence of commitment to complete the program of study, care or service for the community, and any other information you feel supports the application.
• This scholarship cannot be combined with any other Fort Hays State University funds. Other community and outside scholarships may be combined with is program.

The Hagan Scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters, workshops to learn important life skills not typically covered in the college curriculum, funds to purchase college essentials, an HSF Schwab Brokerage Account to manage, funds to study and travel abroad, and the opportunity to extend the Hagan Scholarship to obtain a graduate or profession degree. Apply now! Application deadline is December 1st. Eligibility requirements include the following:
• Must have achieved a 3.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average.
• Must enroll at an Eligible Four-Year College or University the first semester following high school graduation.
• Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule in college.
• Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2024 until commencement of the 2024 fall semester in college. Work can be performed at the recipient’s discretion. Work must be regularly scheduled employment performed under supervision for compensation. Most recipients work during the summer months. However, all paid employment counts, including part-time employment during this time period.
• Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2022 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $85,000. “Household Income” is defined as the total income received by all members of a household living under the same roof.
• Applicants selected as Finalists in early 2024 must provide a copy of their FAFSA SAR.
• Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.
• Must not have a felony conviction.

The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, designed to provide recipients with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free. The Rudd Scholarship offers a FULL-RIDE to seniors promoting grit, determination, and work ethic. Apply now! Application deadline is December 1st. Here are the requirements to apply:
• Graduating high school senior who plans to enroll full-time in the fall.
• Must have a cumulative, unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Must have taken the ACT or SAT and submit the score to apply.
• Must be a Kansas resident and qualify for in-state tuition.
• Demonstrate financial need (Pell-eligible).
• Will attend either Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Kansas State, or Wichita State Universities.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident.
