The Schmidt Foundation Scholars scholarship is a $15,106 award made possible through the generous gifts of the Schmidt Foundation. This amount includes 30 hours of tuition and fees for fall and spring courses, books, and room and board. This scholarship aims to support FHSU students, with preference given to students from Kansas and first-generation college students. Recipients can renew their scholarship for up to three additional years if eligibility requirements continue to be met. Each year, five future FHSU students from the incoming freshman class will have the opportunity to receive this prestigious scholarship and join the respected community of Schmidt Foundation Scholars. Apply now! Application deadline is February 15th, 2024. Eligibility requirements include the following:
• Recipients must be full-time, on-campus, undergraduate students enrolled at Fort Hays State University.
• Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.25; Maintain a 2.50 GPA after the 1st semester for yearly renewal. Ongoing participation will require a 3.25 GPA.
• Recipients must live on-campus. Room and board with meal plan will be covered by the Schmidt Foundation Scholars Program.
• Recipient must be Kansas residents with preference to first-generation college students. (The term refers to students from families in which neither of their parents earned a two or four-year degree.)
• Preference to Kansas counties where Eagle Radio has locations (https://eagleradio.net//services/radio).
• Preference to Healthcare, Education, Business/Entrepreneurship, Arts, and Communication Programs
• Selected recipients are required to attend once a semester event (dinner) with Schmidt Foundation and FHSU leadership for opportunity to network.
• Submit an essay of 600 words or less which include background, financial need, evidence of commitment to complete the program of study, care or service for the community, and any other information you feel supports the application.
• This scholarship cannot be combined with any other Fort Hays State University funds. Other community and outside scholarships may be combined with is program.
