Their mission is to serve the cultural needs of a diverse community by providing a school and outreach programs for the visual and performing arts and by promoting the enjoyment and understanding of the arts for peopl
e of all ages as expressed in music, art, dance, and drama. At Darlington, you can learn the skills of an artist, experience professional performances and exhibits, create works of art, and connect to other community members and your inner-self. Classes, private lessons, and workshops are held year-round, and the center offers multi-disciplinary programs that include an arts-integrated Preschool, school holiday workshops, and weekly summer camps. Every spring, Darlington hosts “The 4 Arts Festival,” a month-long series of performances and exhibitions that allows students from all programs to showcase their artistic development in front of family members, friends, and the community. Engaging in the Arts has the power to build communities, and the center invites the public to attend these events free of charge. In addition to programs held on-site, Darlington reaches out to economically disadvantaged youth living in the areas of Chester and West Chester. These funded outreach programs include The Chester Theatre Arts Program, Suzuki Violin instruction held in three schools, and a new “Literacy through Songwriting” arts-integrated program with Chester County Family Academy.
