Cora the Wobbly Pittie Girl

Cora the Wobbly Pittie Girl Birthday July 4, 2005 Hello Everypawdy!! I am Cora, also known as "Pizza", "Pitbulina", and "Moo Moo Chicken" among others :). I am 7 years old now. I LOVE dogs!!

My momma rescued me from a bad man, backyard breeder who had sold all my brothers to be "fighting" dogs and was selling me and my sisters for "bait". When my momma and her husister found us, the bad man would not let them rescue all of us, but only one a piece, so after momma rescued me and auntie rescued my sister Olivia, they notified someone called an ACO to go and rescue the rest of my sisters

. I was 10 weeks old and only weighed 8 pounds. I was very very skinny! I was also extremely anemic, wormy, and covered from nose to tail in fleas and ticks. Momma, Auntie and a friend of theirs took 3 whole hours just to pick the ticks off me :(. I earned my CGC and TD titles by my first birthday. My motto "I represent my peeps!". I really enjoyed my visits to the patients at Dorothea Dix Hospital. I think I made them feel so much better :). But.... then... at around 18 months momma noticed that I was having trouble walking sometimes. She thought I had hurt my leg, and that is when the doctor's visits started. First, my regular vet..... then the orthopedist... finally the neurologist at the Veterinary School at North Carolina State University who diagnosed me with Wobbler's Disease. He said I have a relatively mild case, which I guess is a good thing, but it is progressive so over the years, my symptoms have gotten more obvious. An unfortunate side effect of all the diagnosing, was that I developed a severe anxiety disorder and now I do not like going anywhere (I always assume it is going to be to the vet to be poked and prodded), and everything scares me. EXCEPT other dogs. My furfamily consists of 5 furbrothers and sisters, all of whom are also rescues and all of whom I love love LOVE so much :), and the never ending parade of foster furbrothers and fursisters that pass through our doors on their way to their own furever homes :). If I am out in public, I will always gravitate to other dogs and submissively lick their faces to make myself feel better. It seems to work for me :)

Momma thought it would be a good idea to start this page, because she didn't see any other pages on the FaceWoof for any other doggies with Wobbler's like me :)

Holy Guacamole, y'all!! The first full week of the Sock Drive was HUGE!!! Thank you SO Much to Ruth Denny in memory of Penny, Elvis and Teddy (OMD, y'all outdid yourselves!!); Helen Bresson and pack; Tammy and Bonnie Wilson; Carol and Molly; Bill, Lorraine, and Buddy Addiss; and 9 packages from Amazon with no name/gift card. This week's PAWmazing amount of 744 PAIRS of socks, added to the first half week, gives us a current Total of 836 PAIRS of socks!! Oak City Cares will be helping a lot of cold feet this year!! I am blown away and humbled by all y'alls generosity and we are only at the end of the second week!!
Don't forget that we will collect through Halloween, so there is still PLENTY of time to get a donation in if you want to!!

Well, we might have started in the middle of the week, but the first week of the 2026 Cora Memorial Sock Drive is in the books!!!
Thank you SO much to Jacqi, John and the pups and 2 packages from Amazon with no name/gift cards. Including the 2 pairs of socks from my neighbor's daughter Olivia, our first "week" donation total is 94 Pairs of socks!! And, a gentle reminder, Oak City Cares does focus more on the adult population :)
Thank you all SO much!!!!

Well, Cookie Mae's ear/abscess might be acting up again. She has been scratching at it since yesterday, has been reluctant to shake her head this morning, and was even trembling a little when I was petting her. To me, it does feel a little swollen, but there is also a lot of scar tissue, so I can't be sure. I am hoping that if it is the abscess building again, maybe they can schedule the ultrasound there instead of doing it at the specialist (which would be significantly more expensive).
And if it's not the abscess building again, then I need to know what's going on!!
So.... off to the Dogtor we go again, PODP Cookie Mae!! We gotta get this figured out and completely healed already!!! Sheesh!!!

Ok, y'all!! Let's GOOOOO!!! I got this message from a close contact with the Helping Hand Mission; she said, "The Helping Hand Mission is up and running. Of course, many clients are in need fire or not. The main building for storage and distribution is where the fire was concentrated. The outside structure was rebuilt; storage is a huge problem. Sylvia has worked hard with her clients to ensure needs are being met as best she can. The big problem this year is lack of storage space. 4000 pairs of socks are huge!!! While a smaller donation of socks may be appropriate, it would pull away from the impact Cora's drive should have. Andrea has worked hard at finding new venues for distribution. This may only need to be a one-year commitment to a new venue. But maybe the best solution for this year."
So, with that in mind, this year we will be making our donation to Oak City Cares, another wonderful organization that serves the unhoused and in-need population here in Raleigh, NC. I am honored and humbled that they agreed to accept our donation, and I am so glad that Our Girl's memory will live on this year

Ok y'all. We need to talk. Yes, it's about the sock drive that we should have started 2 weeks ago.
If y'all remember, the Helping Hand Mission had a catastrophic fire this past Spring. Since then, I have not been able to contact Ms. Sylvia. I have called numerous times and left messages but have not heard back. I can only imagine how busy she is trying to rebuild while at the same time, figuring out how to provide the necessary services that she does. At this point, we need to make a decision.
A) Cancel the drive this year and see if the Mission is back up and running next year.
Or.
B) Have an abbreviated drive from September through October and find another organization to donate the socks to. (yes, I have a lead on somewhere)

Please comment with your preference. Personally, I would hate to miss a whole year of honoring Our Girl's memory

Cookie Mae is headed out to a specialist this morning to see if we can figure out how to actually get rid of this infection in her neck area (where the abscess was). Since it blew open almost 3 weeks ago now, it's mostly healed back up and not oozing anymore, but today was the earliest the specialist could see her so...
I know that the Gremlin - The Mr Mo Project has invested a lot in your healing journey, and we will think of something to do for a fund raiser to off set hopefully most of those expenses!! Any ideas??
PODP Cookie Mae, I hope today brings some answers!!!

In the spirit of openness and honesty that we adhere to here, I come to let y'all know that it is with great sadness we will be freeing Midnight this afternoon of her broken body. Despite all of my, and the vets, best efforts, nothing seems to be bringing her any relief. She is shutting down, in pain and miserable..... and I promised her the best of the rest, not prolonged suffering :(
Thank you SO much to Gremlin - The Mr Mo Project for giving this beautiful and kind soul a chance, she definitely deserved it!!
Wish her peace on her journey, that she is restored to health and happiness
