Garland Retired School Personnel

Thank you GRSP 2nd Vice President, Melanie Ferrell, for accepting this position. Books and supplies were handed over from Terry Lucius and Melanie is ready to distribute books to GISD First Graders. The Children’s Book Project began in 1997 by Martha Bible Smith and Billy Ann Hurt. The following year TRTA started a similar program statewide. GRSP received a national award for this and other endeavors related to youth. Readers are leaders!

It was a great day to be a GRSP member. Our first meeting of this school year was well attended! We were full of “Not Back to School” spirit. 🏈Committee reports were given, numerous school supplies were collected for the GISD Giving Place, and we celebrated GISD’s 125 year old birthday! Thank you Dr. Lopez for sharing all the amazing things happening in our school district!

See you tomorrow at our first meeting “ Not Back to School” of the ‘26-‘27 school year. We will catch up on summer activities, hear from Superintendent Dr. Ricardo Lopez about what’s happening in GISD, collect school supplies for GISD Giving Place, and enjoy visiting with our friends and colleagues. Wear something related to school spirit! It will be a great day to be a GRSP member!

Have you read TRTA's 2027 Legislative Priorities?

523,000 TRS retirees. One hard truth: the average annuity check is 30% behind inflation — and Texas has no automatic COLA. That means it's on us to make the case.

Our 2027 Legislative Priorities spell out exactly what lawmakers need to do. We need every retiree standing behind them.

👉 Read it. Share it with a candidate. Tag a retiree who needs to see this: www.trta.org/legislative-priorities

Starting Oct. 1, 2026, Garland Power & Light customers will pay less for electricity. Residential customers using an annual average of 1200 kWh per month will see an average savings of $12.00 per month, or $144 per year.

This 1 cent per kWh ($0.01/kWh) decrease will be effective for all residential customers and for commercial customers whose electric rates contain the Recovery Adjustment Factor.
