Yay! See you tomorrow!!

It’s important that we get our kids back in school, and we’re ready to do just that. After closely assessing road conditions and our buildings, Garland ISD campuses and offices will open at their regularly scheduled time on Friday, January 30, 2026. Our teams have been working around the clock to prepare our schools and buses to welcome students and staff back safely.

Transportation Information: Buses will operate as scheduled. Families are encouraged to use the StopFinder app to track bus arrival times.

Travel Safety Reminder: Please be careful when traveling. Dress warmly if you will be outside, leave a little extra time to get where you are going, and be patient on the roads. Your safety is very important to us.

Events may be rescheduled, weather permitting. Coaches and sponsors will provide participants with any additional updates.​​

📣 The 2026–2027 Choice of School & Magnet application window is NOW OPEN!

The window for students entering 1st–12th grades opens today, December 1, and runs through January 12, 2026.

💡 Reminder: This is not first-come, first-served.

Who needs to apply?

- Students currently in 5th grade
- Students currently in 8th grade
- Students applying for a magnet program
- Students who wish to switch campuses
- Current kindergartners entering 1st grade in 2026–27 who want to change campuses

**If you want your student to remain at their current campus, you don’t need to submit an application.***

GISD has already created each family’s Avela Apply account using Family 1/Guardian 1 info from Skyward — please do not sign up. Just ensure your contact info is correct.

It’s that time!

Choice of School is for any family looking to change schools, apply for a NEW magnet program, or transition from 5th to 6th, or 6th to 8th.

If you are currently enrolled and happy with your placement, you do not need to complete a new choice form as you have the right to remain!

The application window for Choice of School and Magnet programs opens earlier this year: Dec. 1 through Jan. 12.

Who is this for?
Students entering grades 1-12 who:
