Making an impact that goes beyond the classroom
Reese Bryant, a student from Sachse High School and a participant in the Future Teachers Institute (FTI), is turning her passion into purpose through her community-focused project, The Learning Nest, a structured life skills resource designed for individuals with disabilities. The system includes activity-based materials covering areas such as hygiene, money management, job skills, and daily living tasks, supported by step-by-step guidance, visual supports, and QR code videos.
After dedicating more than 150 hours and rallying community support, Reese earned first place at the state Texas Association of Future Educators competition (TAFE).
Now, she, along with other GISD students, is headed to nationals this summer in Portland, Oregon!
For Reese, it is about more than competition. It is about creating change.
“I want to make a difference,” she shared. “And I know this is the path that will let me do that.” ✨
