One of the things I look forward to most is making fall foods!

Today I cooked us my first chili of the season! Super simple to have cooking in the crock pot and makes a great meal for the week and easily frozen for future meals!

What healthy fall food do you like to make?!

“Discipline is a muscle; you have to build it at your own pace. If you bite off more than you can chew at the start, chances are excellent you’ll get discouraged and give up altogether. Set honest goals that are just outside your comfort zone and build from there.”

I am all about the baby steps...things we can easily build upon. Because if you feel successful, you are more apt to stick with it and make new goals.

A couple recipes for you all this weekend! Sooo yummy and fulfills your sweet tooth craving.

My healthy habit tip is that even paleo foods (it’s healthy cuz it’s paleo, right?!) can be over indulged in. These calories add up quickly. I know for me, it’s hard for me to stop at one or two of these cookies if they are just sitting around and easy to grab. Same with the brownies. Leave the pan out with easy access and I will keep picking at it.

So what I do now is put a serving in a baggie and stick it in the freezer! That way, you can’t just mindlessly snack on it on a whim. There’s purpose behind it. It’s already portioned out, and it has to sit out for a few minutes before you can eat it.

I’m all about these healthy habits. How to still enjoy the things you love, how to work around habits that don’t necessarily line up with your goals and how to not feel entirely restricted. Message me, share my page, comment...whatever you want and let’s talk about how we can help you reach your goals!

Progress isn’t always visible to all...much of the initial progress we all see is internal. The battles we have won, not giving in to the sweets...working out even when we don’t feel like it...The days we force ourselves to down that last glass of water to meet our goal. Progress is seen in our energy, our moods, our sleep quality, our digestion...all of that is worth MORE than the number on the scale!

All of these moments add up. Consistency is key because progress/results aren’t immediate. We have to keep working at it, day in and day out. Making the choices no matter how hard or how easy to get us one step closer to our goals..it all adds up.

So here’s to those that keep going, day after day! 🙌 you all rock!

I wanted to share my favorite “go to” meal for the summer!

Leafy greens (talk about great nutrients!)
Blueberries and strawberries (more great antioxidants and nutrients)
Walnuts and feta (sparingly...healthy fats!)
Home made balsamic vinaigrette (evoo, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard and honey)

Today I put on some leftover chicken and a burger (90% beef)

Surprisingly filling, well balanced and a great source of fuel and energy for the rest of your day!

Below shows just how many factors influence the energy balance in our bodies...at the end of the day it isn't always just "calories in, calories out" (CICO). This image comes from an Precision Nutrition article that I really like. It quotes:

"The Energy Balance Equation—and therefore CICO—includes all the complex inner workings of the body, as well as the external factors that ultimately impact “calories in” and “calories out.”
Imperative to this, and often overlooked, is your brain. It’s constantly monitoring and controlling CICO. Think of it as mission control, sending and receiving messages that involve your gut, hormones, organs, muscles, bones, fat cells, external stimuli (and more), to help balance “energy in” and “energy out.”
It’s one hell of a complicated—and beautiful—system.
Yet the Energy Balance Equation itself looks really simple. Here it is:

* [Energy in] – [Energy out] = Changes in body stores*

*Body stores refers to all the tissues available for breakdown, such as fat, muscle, organ, and bone. I purposely haven’t used “change in body weight” here because I want to exclude water weight, which can change body weight independent of energy balance. In other words, water is a confusing, confounding variable that tricks people into thinking energy balance is broken when it’s not.
With this equation, “energy in” and “energy out” aren’t just calories from food and exercise. As you can see in the illustration below, all kinds of factors influence these two variables."

This is why, when I look at health, I look at many other factors, including hydration, sleep and stress.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you want to discuss your health more...if you've been dieting and not getting the results you want...or if you just want to FEEL BETTER!
