They say, if you live long enough you hear and see the same arguments come around again and again.

As an LEO trainer specializing in defensive tactics and control techniques. Not only do I teach blocks, strikes, kicks, takedowns, locks, and other arrest and control techniques that I have used in my 32 years of police and security career. I do teach basic Dumog (Filipino Wrestling), and Catch Wrestling techniques. Grappling skills with striking skills to put more simply.

After George Floyd's death I kept seeing BJJ schools offer free lessons to police officers up to blue belt which made me laugh so hard because I already knew what was going to happen.

I said to myself that they'll have to teach their BJJ without chokes, mount, knee on belly, and any that restricts airflow that wears down an opponent.

In the coming weeks I watched video after video of BJJ instructors talking about how safe the rear naked chokes is, and how useful it is in dangerous situations. Instructors saying it not dangerous because no one is harm in their class when it's used.

This made me laugh even harder because I've heard this agruement play out tons of times over the years. This is just the first time that BJJ has really taken criticism instead of praise, and this will hit many BJJ LEO instructors pocketbook hard.

This instructor makes some good points about taking good controlling tactics away and criminalizing them. This will result in hard striking techniques being deployed sooner, and the use of batons to be used to build compliance (Rodney King).

Hang in there BJJ, your time will come again once PD and governments start listening to the experts again.
