Shout out to our amazing GEAR UP students!
FITCHBURG – Challenge accepted.
Fitchburg High recently held an IXL Challenge for grade 10 students. The challenge was to answer the most questions correctly during a four-week span. Congratulations go out to the top five students – Joseph Fredenberg, Olivia Read, Isaac Yang, Alondra Lebron Vazquez and Jianna Mack – who received a lunch of their choosing.
"The IXL Challenge was a wonderful way for our students to prepare for MCAS,” said FHS teacher Kate Dellechiaie, who has four out of the five students in class. “They could work on skills of their choice and were really engaged in the process. They progressed in 598 different math topics and we were able to celebrate their success with a celebratory lunch."
Some of these students spent over 40 hours practicing skills in IXL.
Also, IXL had a global competition with over 43,000 classes signing up to compete. In the 9th to 12th grade group, FHS teacher Donna White's precalculus class came in 11th place.
“I am so impressed with the drive, talent and determination of my Honors Precalculus class,” said White. “This year, my students combined have answered over 100,000 IXL questions. Their hard work has brought International Academic Recognition to the class, as well as to the Fitchburg High School community, making me very proud to have them as my students.”
Added student Alex Fey: "Even Pre-Calc problems couldn't stop us. We XLed.”
Student Gianna Calderon said that “it was challenging completing all the IXLs, but it made me more confident in my math skills as I went along.”
