There doesn’t exist a scenario in which after using your firearm to defend yourself you simply
re-holster and turn and walk away. 

Your life will be forever changed and in the time it took you to read this you’ve already missed opportunities to help your case in front of the jury that you will almost certainly being standing in front of.

We’re all guilty of training for the before and the during. It’s the after that will be most challenging.

With millions of new gun owners please be safe at your local ranges many new shooters have no clue what they are doing. Make sure your range has a Range Officer that is engaged in the safe operations of the range.

Firearm Safety:
Rule 4
Know your target and beyond. This is a two part concept. FIRST part where could your bullet hit if you miss or pe*****te through your intended target?! If engaging a hostile threat, if you miss will your bullet cause unintended injury or death. Once a bullet leaves the barrel there is no taking it back, you will have to live with the consequences.  If you are at a range whether it’s indoor or outdoor you should look behind your target (down range) especially at outdoor ranges using dirt berms, these can have large rocks or other hard material that can become exposed over time causing an opportunity to have a bullet ricochet.
Second part knowing your target means what material are you engaging and is it designed for the caliber you are using. Make sure you are shooting material that will not cause ricochets or result in target fragmentation that could cause injury.

Firearm Safety:
Rule 3
Never point a firearm at something you don’t intend to destroy. Keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction. While this may sound like common sense, it’s definitely not. For example if you are on the top floor of a two story house.... is down still a good direction? No. If you are in an office build is the wall a safe direction, would you still think so if you were in the office on the other side? No again. It would be great if there was always a safe direction but in reality there seldom is, so you must take extra care as to which way you point your firearm.

Firearm Safety:
Rule 2
Keep you finger off the trigger. Another rule that sounds simple but is often ignored by many gun owners. To prevent an accidental discharge, practice keeping your finger along the frame above the trigger housing. This must be practiced every time you pick up or handle a firearm. Your finger should only touch the trigger once you have acquired a good sight alignment and sight picture.

Firearm Safety:
Rule 1
Treat every gun like it is loaded.
I know this seems simple, however this rule must apply to every gun every time, regardless of what it is, real training (blue gun) or Air-soft. The purpose of this is to not allow your brain to make exceptions to this rule. You must condition your mind to have this default setting when handling fi****ms. By doing this it greatly reduces the chance for a mistake on your part, because a mistake with a firearm can be deadly.

Welcome to Defense Beyond the Range.

Our goal is to provide education and training to gun owners. With the ever changing political landscape our Country has seen a steep rise in gun sales. The vast majority of new gun owners fail to put in the required time and training to be safe and effective with their firearm. Many new gun owners are not even aware of their skill level or lack there of. We provide hands on classroom and range training. We will cover SAFETY above all else, malfunctions, maintenance and operation of the customers personal weapon.
